The game takes place in what is commonly referred to as "this vast world of ours". None are certain where they came from, or why they are here. Through the centuries, the people of each continent developed their own religion in the common search for what the meaning of their life is - their own beliefs and sense of purpose - and each governing body holds different values and opinions in what is truly right and what is truly wrong.

The people of the continent of Azure are wielders of sword and magic, taking strong belief in that after death, a pure Azurian never actually leaves this realm, and instead roam the lands as a wisp. They follow no specific deity and instead believe that they were born through the will of the Weavers, the practitioners of the White Line. After the Trade War between Azure and the technologically superior continent of Canurbum, many soldiers were displaced and without jobs, assuming the role of mercenaries to take up the odd jobs of the people for any coin that they can manage to get their hands on, resulting in an increase in poverty and crime throughout the entire continent as mercenaries often had the choice of acting as hitmen or face starvation.

The Azurian government was forced to concede to Canurbum in the Trade War and engage in trade deals that are largely kept secret from the public, often involving slave labor in exchange for food and water. This started with the trade of a mysterious dark crystal to the military head of Canurbum, Captain Jing.

Nobody is certain what the purpose of the crystal is.

You take on the role of Reis, a displaced orphan of the recent Trade War on the continent of Azure. A soldier of the Red Edge Army with no more wars to fight, your days are spent on rescue missions and killing threatening monsters in the surrounding forests of Rann, a small village where Reis was raised.

After it is revealed that your commander is wanted for war crimes, the Red Edge Army disbands, leaving Reis and fellow soldier Line to disembark from Azure for a better life in the other continents instead of becoming one of the mercenaries. In their travels, they learn more about the dark crystal and are thrust into the forefront of an inevitable world war when Jing discovers that there are more crystals.

Infinite Legacy takes elements from games such as Final Fantasy I for the NES and attempts to put a real-world twist on a classic premise. You are not the chosen Warrior of Light, you are not a Soldier of God sent to stop an unspeakable evil or Dark Lord. You are, instead, a displaced soldier with a group of three allies just trying to survive. You are not forced to be a good person, in fact in a lot of scenarios, you may choose to do the wrong thing, but then the question has to be asked, what even is the right thing?

Ultimately, the game boils down to battling nasty enemies in elemental dungeons to obtain elemental crystals, but your primary opposition does not consist of demons. They are human beings. Some have been corrupted by greed, some have good intentions, some just want to have the power that they bring. Where do you stand in all of this? Are you any better than the others that seek the crystals? How sure are you that the other governing bodies that seek the crystals have ill will? You will be forced to make choices, and the result may not always be what you expected it to be. There is never a guarantee that you're the good guy in this story. It all comes down to the choices that you make.

Gameplay.png

You start the game by creating your party. You have four slots and four basic classes to choose from, each with skills that can compliment each other and make for some interesting party compositions. To make things more complicated, each basic class eventually branches out into four specialties - you can never experience everything from just one playthrough. Each class can also equip one of three weapon-types, some of which are exclusive to that class.

As you level, you earn "Passive Skill Points", which you may distribute into stats for your party members. You define their build, their weaknesses and their strengths. Once the decision is made, there is no going back. You must fully commit to your decisions.

Your approach to the game, both inside and outside of combat, is left largely up to you. The world is full of areas to explore, dungeons you do not necessarily have to go to, but decide to venture into regardless. Forests full of treasures, but also dangerous enemies, await you in the adventure of this vast world of ours. If you are feeling particularly brave, you may accept special Hunts from the Hunter's Guilds in the cities. Each guild has a different hunt, more powerful than the last.

The game utilizes a turn-based battle system, reaching for the aesthetic of older J-RPG's.

In the creation of this project, some things were removed. Namely, you cannot miss your attacks and you cannot dodge incoming attacks unless explicitly stated by equipment, buff/debuff, skill, or enemy trait. That RNG has no place here.

Crafting is rewarded by allowing the player to craft consumables and equipment. The crafted equipment - unlike story-bought gear - comes with slots. You can buy special augments to socket into these slots, giving the equipment unique bonuses. Crafting is made fairly simple in Infinite Legacy, with beginner enemies having a chance to drop Tier I Scrap for crafting, and enemies that are slightly more difficult dropping Tier II Scrap, etc. etc., so you don't have to backtrack to hunt for specific drops from specific enemies.

BetaInfo.png

For the beta of the current posting, the entirety of the Continent of Azure is completed. Once you obtain the ship, the outside world is mostly empty and has nothing for you in it at this time. Some animations do not have sound effects, but most do. I'm looking to implement a concept where you can kill most NPC's you see if you so fit, but the repurcussions of your choices largely won't come until later, so in the current beta, you cannot mindlessly kill anyone you see (yet).

The four basic classes are the extent of the game for the current demo. You do not yet get an opportunity to specialize.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
