Hey this is a very cool tutorial for a cool idea. However can I make a few suggestions?

I would make the priority of the events to below character's rather than same as. If you have it on same as than when you go to exit the room say you approach the event from

the left or right rather than the front, the character will turn and go through the wall rather than the door. Also, I would suggest putting the transparency on setting before the first step forward move setting

because otherwise, depending on which direction you approach the event from the actor will step forward and will appear over the wall for 1 frame.

Just my 2cents ^_^

Again, good tutorial!

You are completely correct, I can't believe I overlooked that.

Thanks. I'll get that changed as soon as I can.

EDIT: Fixed. Thanks for the heads up. I have a tendancy to always walk straight at the door and never to the sides, so I never noticed.

Now.... i am a 'noob' (working on my first ever game, on ace) but i hated the idea of walking past and accidentally going through the door...

So i moved the upper event down into the celing tile, (arrow) and set the priority to 'same'

And... it worked... i can walk past and it dont make me go through the door, but if i walk DOWN it will take me through, also I added two blobs of shadow where the door is on the other side....

whadaya fink? (picture shows demo so you can compare)

Your method is the way I typically do my own events. You can also use conditional branches based upon the direction you are facing as well. While that may be a bit overkill, using conditional branches works great when it comes to opening chest or reading signs, as it prevents you from opening/read from the wrong direction, such as when you are standing behind something.

Great tutorial, thanks. I just have one issue I can't figure out. When I walk back out of the door, the door vanishes after playing the closing animation. I can post screenshots but I followed your scripts to the letter. Any thoughts?

@BlueMobius:- Have you downloaded the tutorial. I've just checked everything in the tutorial against what's under the spoilers up above and it's all correct. Did you add the extra door graphic to the second page of the door? It's the only reason I can think of that would mean the door disappeared.

have you copied the events as I've posted them.

I'm not sure i can get more step by step than that.

What exactly are you having problems with? The events work perfectly for me. have you checked out the demo?

um, there should be a switch for the door, when you go back through it should turn off to allow you to go back through...

(I hope i put that in at least)

yes you have the switches ^^ it's all working now. except the door doesnt open when i go out, but it works in your demo, except the door in your demo when you leave opens opposite side of when you go in (not trying to nitpick but just maybe you didnt notice)

nope, didn't notice that.

if you move the door motion event from the main door event to the other event the door should open propourly. (I'll try and post a fixit)
