I unfortunately bought RPG Maker VX Ace last year and will use it to create a game. I recently took a semester off of college to take care of things and one of my classes last year introduced me to Java. While I was learning Java I was also teaching myself Ruby so I would be able to customize RPG Maker VX Ace. Funny because now there is RPG Maker MV that uses Java instead of Ruby. If I only waited a year. I have a basic understanding of scripting and I am more of a writer/artist. The Game I am working on is an adaptation of the book I am writing but the world revolves around the player. I would run tabletop games and play console games like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, Fable, etc. which has inspired me to create a game where the player chooses what to say, do, react, feel, influence, and bond; A story containing in-depth characters, which wrap around who the player is. Choices that define the player instead of label them right/wrong, good/evil, hero/villain. The game will be free to play and anything that I create excluding the main characters will be free to use. My created scripts, monsters, backgrounds, items, cities, people, etc. will be free for any use. I plan on using a donation site when I have more time to invest, likely sometime after college. I consider donation to be a form of commercial use, so they will be free for commercial use.


My first choice of game engine was Unity3d but I did not want to waste time with 3d modeling, meshes, etc. when i could draw 2d. So I went with Ren'py but noticed I played more free RPG Maker games than Ren'py ones'. So I bought the newest RPG Maker... at the time. I enjoy it and all the tutorials make it very simple to use but the chibi characters all look like babies compared to XP.


I have two questions: What can I do to help out? Where do I go to ask questions about scripting?
