Introduction to Scripts

I'm trying to implement Yanfly's "Battle Command List" script, but I'm brand new to scripts. I keep seeing reference to changing things in the "notebox," but I have no idea what that is or where to find it. Can someone point me in the direction to where I might find a tutorial that explains scripts to someone who has never used them before?

@Andar So by writing something in a notebox, I'm changing the script?

Also, if I'm using the Lite version, can I do scripting through the noteboxes? I know the lite version tells you there is no scripting (though I've heard you can use a 3rd party scripting application.

wrong by both counts.


Noteboxes themselves do absolutely nothing. But a script can read them to get additional data about what it is supposed to do.


Only when a script gets note data that has been programmed into the script it will react to that data.


So without a script, noteboxes are just that: boxes where you can place your personal notes. And since Lite cannot add scripts, they will never be something else in the Lite version.

If the instructions for a script say to use note boxes, is there a way to just go straight in to editing the script? I only ask this because I have the lite version, but found a 3rd part script editor.
