No, I don't mean live action FMV, I mean 2D animated cutscenes, that play when the scene wants something complex. Like a boss appearing, or looking at a sunset, or when a party member is unleashing his or her most powerful attack. Would you like to see FMV cutscenes like that, and is it possible?

Well there's either the "video" event option, or there's a script somewhere in the forums that lets you play a load of different vid types.

EDIT: This was the script I was thinking of, but it changes other things too. There may be another, idk.

It is possible, but from what I've heard, the video quality in RPG Maker is pretty bad and not worth using. But you could always try out something with it and judge the results for yourself.

you can use a rendered ogv (ogg vorbis theora video) or use pictures and do a nice scene in the maker itself if you are good at event manipulation.

People used to do cutscenes like ninja gaiden back when the maker wasn't outside japan, for example.

Hey, I'm wondering: why is a boss appear complex? xD well looking at sunset sounds more doable, but I think you could use background image for that, and the last one: why don't you make the animation in the database instead? my point is: unless it's something that can't be done inside RPG Maker itself, why do a video for it? I haven't tried inserting a video in a game but like Milennin said, I think quality is gonna drop if you're making 2D FMV video over a 2D game.

Well, I won't show traditionally animated cutscenes all the time, only in something that can't be done inside RPG maker itself, like you said. Plus, some cutscenes have a bigger impact in a different angle other than the top down perspective. I might insert a picture if it doesn't really needs to be animated.

Oh yea, didn't thought of angles, sorry :D

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
