Hello everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to have a help and/or tutorial option in the menu that when selected will give you a tutorial on the game controls/mechanics.

I have some in game tutorials but thought it would be cool if the player had a reference to them in the menu once they had been performed/seen in game.

Is something like this possible?

Sure it is, just a matter of how you want to present it.  Would you like a picture showing control layout or such?  Maybe some different game mechanics?  Or would you prefer the player to actually play a tutorial?

The first one would involve displaying pictures or similar which can be done through events or scripts if needed.  The later can be done by teleporting the player to a tutorial map.

I would rather have it as text boxes with a character face. Much like the text boxes in game that my tutorials have when a character is explaining something.

Wouldn't that just be talking?  Or do you mean more like a popup box like Vlue made here:

In a way yes. What I mean is that the menu will appear and have sub- topics such as: Game controls (tutorial explaining game controls), Magic system, TP system.... etc...

Not pop ups but an actual menu with topics.

What I meant by picture is to have like a little image of a "tutorial face" (mines a book)..

Ah I see, so a menu or in your case a book representation of a menu.  I'm sure it is, I'm working on one now but I've hardly started so I can't say how exactly you can pull it off.  (I'm trying to make a journal which list notes on plants and such for a survival game in case the player needs a refresher on what's edible, deadly, etc)

A menu yes ( the book representation would just have been a small picture.)

So it is possible then?

Yes but I'm not sure how, sorry about that I wasn't aware what you wanted specifically until now.  Wait until someone else with more experience responds.

RMMV
I've moved this thread to RGSS3 Script Requests. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

If you want something in the menu, that will be a script addition. You will need the menu option itself and the logic to process that new option. You will also need a scene and a window (possibly several windows) to actually show the tutorial.

They will still need much more information on how you want it to display. Getting the sub-menu with the various options available is one thing (you will need to provide a complete list of those too, btw). But how will the information be presented when someone chooses that option? Is it going to be a lot of lines of text? You need to provide the text. If it needs a specific layout, you need to provide mockups with real information. Is it going to be a picture (easier for the scripter, as they don't have to create the content - they just have to display the picture, and easier for you to make changes to if necessary) - you still need to provide the pictures.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
