Is RPG Maker 2000 still worth it?:
RPG Maker 2000 is really cheap now and I was wondering if it really worth, I already own 2k3 so, do something really change between them two?
I'm also looking for VX(not VX Ace) but, I guess 2k would really worth more for me because the retro style.

Do the RPG2K Games run on Windows 10/11?:
Can Games made in 2k run without any(or too many) problems on Windows 10?( or if anyone has information, windows 11? )
EULA:
I just saw some information talking about the contract that you can't do a lot of thing with 2k while in 2k3 you can, is it true?, do the steam version/value+ changed it?
-Thank you ^^

Hello! Welcone!
I recommend Rm2k3 as the only style change is the battle and game menu.

But about the functions of Rm2k3 you will get much more, it starts in windowed mode, has support for more keys, allows you to create a custom title menu.

I still use Rm2k, because I'm a big fan, those very passionate about software, because it makes me miss it a lot.

But really if you're using Rm2k3 I don't advise, it's practically a downgrade.

But if you come to buy I just released a tool to force the window mode, block the F4, F5 and F12 keys in addition to enabling an image of just before the game starts:

Hi Dev_with_coffe, uh.... About 2k I just go because it was really cheap and( for any reason is more expensive than 2k3,) I already bought and loved! it says "2000" but the event system the database, it's everything really well organized!(even better than MV and MZ) a thing I saw is that there are some things you can modify in 2K and not in 2k3 like the order of where the item or coin appear or if player appear or not in the battle, so in some cases 2k is really good but the thing I keep questioning is about problems with new machines, where 2k3 seems to be very ok with it while 2k not, but I guess everything is ok about it!
And about EULA too, better search more about the differences!
And thank you! of course I'll test your program :D it's a thing I really would like to have in 2k by default.

As far as I know the main difference between the EULA's for RM2k(3) and all other EULAs for later makers is that you need to personally register yourself to Degica or Kadokawa before you are allowed to sell your games commercially.

My personal guess is that difference is due to the many pirated versions and games made with RM2K(3) out there - if they see a game made with it being sold, they can simply check if they have the email of the seller on file and if yes ignore it. If not it is either made with a pirated maker or the seller is in breach of the EULA and they can send their lawyers knowing they get paid.
If they didn't insist on personal registration before commercial use they would run the risk of sending lawyers against someone legally correct, but with that EULA that won't happen.

Regarding RPG2000/2003 games on Win10:

It's almost doing perfectly fine in windowed mode, there are only some edge cases where frame lags increased immensely compared to weaker PCs that where able to run games on WinXP smoothly, most notably if there are high zoomed (or simply huge) pictures in rotation mode on screen.

Also since 2000-1.60 default battles feel being slowed down.

I'm rather curious about the EULA too. I've read that you can patch RM2K3 freely because it's now legally fine, but how about RM2K?

not exactly.
there is a specific Patch-EULA that lists the restrictions and requirements for programming and using a patch on the program. It does allow much, but there are consequences and I would not call it "can patch freely".

For RM2k there unfortunately isn't any patch EULA. I'm very happy we achieved it at least for RM2k3 though, I think it already gave some people a headache so I'm glad we got it at the end!

What about the engine?
Let's say I could read the RM2K Database Window and Event Command texts and modify them on the fly, just using the software without actually editing the source code, would that be illegal?

The idea would be to allow a translation for the developer in some commonly used languages, but it's just an idea.

Yes, I particularly prefer to use English because of the similarity with a more traditional programming language, which bothers me in RMVXACE, which cannot be changed, and I have to use it in my first language.

I can't give you a definite answer, but you could also use liblcf to read and write the data files directly and that should be fine, it's a matter of interoperability and at least in my jurisdiction that would be allowed. (I'm not a lawyer though.)

There are already translation tools available by the way, such as DreaMaker, although I'm not sure whether it works with the official version since I saw one user having an issue with it.

Ah, my bad.
I only thought it worked that way because that's kinda what I've heard in some discussions on Steam, I hadn't take a look on the actual EULA yet hehe
Thanks for clearing that up ~

New sprite in action! A-1-2 looks kinda goofy might need to upscale some of the tiles and decorations. And maybe change eliza's creepy laugh to more of a neutral mouth
