Is there a non-script way to make a disco floor?

I'd prefer to avoid events, but I can't do parallax.

So, can this be done with events or with animated iles? If so, how?

Yes, it depends on exactly what you are wanting to do, but if you are wanting some sort of animation, you are going to have to do something - either scripts or eventing or lighting effects of some sort.

I'm inclined to want a tileset where the floor lights up like in a disco. The tutorials that I can find deal mostly with water and don't really apply to this effect. Problem is, I don't know how to start an animated disco floor tileset or to convert a tileset I downloaded into an animated disco floor tileset.

I also don't know if a script exists out there that lights up the floor in a disco pattern based on region id or whatever.

The only thing I do know is I want a disco floor that lights up in diagonal patterns.

check out Busted Ed's tips and tricks, they posted a way to do lighting with events. If you used that you could probably move the lights around, and the stepping animation on the lights make them flicker. Combine with a few events all over the floor and it should work out.

Yes, there should be a fairly simple way to accomplish this. What I would recommend is posting in Resource Requests for the actual animated tile (with links to specifically what you would like it to look at). Then as bsillisp said, you can put the tiles with a stepping animation where you want on the floor.

I might have an idea;

is it possible to have the parallax background move in 2 frames instead of having consistent movement?

I basically either want the parallax background to move back and forth one tile or to move in one direction one tile at a time.

Is this possible?

Well I managed to find a script (modern algebra's [VXA] Animated Parallax 1.0) that helps to create the disco floor effect when combined with the two 64x64 parallaxes of flipped colors.

Still though, I'd prefer a tileset so I'll go ahead and make a request. Thank you all.

Glad you found something, though next time edit your previous post to add in your comment, as what you did is considered double posting, so...

If you just want the floor tiles to flash, you can do it without scripts or events.  Use the A1 tileset and choose a tile the player can walk on (the poison swamp would be a good one).  Place your floor tiles there, with one color/version covering the whole 6 tile 'group'.  In the Tilesets tab on the database, make sure Damage Floor is turned off.

When you draw with that tile and play, it will animate between the tiles you've used to make up that autotile group.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
