I was thinking of trying to make a RPG maker version of shadowgate 64 remake just to see how it would fare but the problem is some of the items in the game, the green ring that kills you when you wear it, and the stone that sucks up water and such i don't know how or what to do since im somewhat new with this.I was just curious.

Make a common event that calls game over, then find Tsukihime's Equip events to make the ring call that common event

Beat me to it.

Yea this, I'm using that script as well since equipment in my game is heavy on the functionality side of things, so me being able to call common events just be equiping/unequiping something, adds even more options to the functionality of the equipment in my game.

...?  I've been calling Common Events with equipment without a script...  I just load up a "Conditional Branch" that checks to see if the object is equipped.  If it's equipped, I put what it does under the "Equipped" section.  If it's not Equipped, I put what it does under the "Not Equipped" section.  I'm currently running 9 separate timers on 9 separate items this way (all of them run in the same Common Event).  It's set to "Parallel Process" and I can even choose the option of who is equipped with what for the Conditional Branch.

Couldn't you just have the Conditional Branch of "main character has green ring equipped" and then put "Call Game Over Screen" under that?  You could leave the "Else" field blank so that when it's not equipped, nothing happens?  That's what I'd do, anyway...

@Tai - The thing is, if you do that then most of time you have running parallel process/es that have no use at all... It's always better to only run something when you need it... at that small amount of items (9) it might not be that much of a thing but if you're gonna do a lot of those items, it's better to just make them run when needed

though really, who would want an equip that will cause a GO?

This is whyyyyyy

Parallel Processes when not needed are no bueno. With the script it will only happen WHEN it happens. Not every 1/60th of a second where other map-based parallels could also be running.

@Adik, could be a silly thing for Story line purpose. Like how in Castlevania: OoE if you use a synergy of 3 Dracula spells, it auto-kills you. You're supposed to use it when you fight against Dracula to "finish the fight" and then....

You actually don't die because stuff happens that lets you stay alive

i have it as a conditional branch in common events like this right now,

Conditional branch:(actor) has green ring equipped.

- text: the room starts swimming as you fall to the floor.

       -Game over

branch end

---------------------------------------------------------

the parallel process is on but when i test it nothing happened.

make sure it's running... AFAIK, you need to set a switch in order to make them start running

Its a thing in shadowgate 3 rings for later , one ring communicates with the dead but causes living to not understand u. green causes gameover, which at a part of the game where u have to answer questions correctly it sends you back way too far, so people save in front of it then use that if they screw up, one question answered another wall opens, save, answer correct, another wall, save, answer incorrect and all the way back, green ring and load. blue ring just fixes reversed controls for another test

Yeah, common event parallels need a switch in order to work. However it's just better to use the scripted method mentioned earlier.

Yeah, I hadn't planned on doing it for more than 9 items.  It looked as if he was only doing it with two items in his game, so I figured my solution was the better one.  After all, I've always been of the mindset of "why use a script if you don't actually need it?".

If he had planned to do it with at least 15 items, I'd say just go ahead and get the script as it'd be more worth your time.  But, that's just me.

I'd still personally do it with scripts even for 1 item... because the effect of the parallel process running uselessly throughout the game can be huge, especially if they stack up to quite a number...

Yea you might only have 1 or 2 iterms doing such, but throughout the game, you'll no doubt have many events in general, doing lord only knows how many actions.

It's all about efficiency.

Oh yeah, that would also be an issue. Forgot to mention that. It can be fixed by another script, but please, use the already mentioned Tsukihime's Equip Events script already. xD  (For the sake of running-efficiency and no lag)
