Is this possible?

Just wondering if a few things are possible in RPG Maker VX Ace:

1) Making my own weapons and armor? Was wanting to use steampunk style guns and armor than swords and whatnot. 

2) Instead of using magic to heal (didn't want magic in the first half of the game) I was hoping to have a key item that appears during battles that you can use to heal every 3 turns.

Both is very easy - you just have to provide your own icons for the database.
