So I was thinking about buying VX ACE, and want to convert my VX rpg. I tried the converter program, but there are multiple problems with it. I am thinking about converting it manually. The items, skills, monsters, and other data should be easy to make, but I am less than enthusiastic about converting all the events (unless there is a way to just copy and paste between the two programs). I would love to be able to play my rpg in ACE with all the new systems and stuff, but am worried I will have to retype all the text and events. What should I do?

It depends on how big your project is (how much effort it would take to convert) and how close you are to completing. I'd say if you're more than half way, you should seriously consider just finishing it in VX and starting the next one in Ace - the closer you are to completion, the stronger the argument to stick with VX.

Is there a specific reason you want to convert to Ace though? Or is it just because it's the latest version? VX is fine, just finish it up in VX.

I have to agree with Celianna.

If you don't have a reason other than it's the newer Maker, just finish it in VX. I'm sure your game will be awesome either way :)

There isn't a whole lot that Ace can do that you can't make VX do via scripts.

Well, I don't know anything about scripting, and I would prefer not to use other people's scripts. I would say that I am at least a third of the way done (maybe, but that might change). ACE would allow for a wider variety in skills, items, and even includes a character generator. In the long run, ACE would probably be better I think.

You could still buy Ace and use the character generator, even if you don't develop your game with Ace. The generator sprites will work with VX, and since you would have legally-purchased versions of both, you're entitled to use the resources from one in the other.

After some thinking, and some messing around on the ACE trial, I have decided to convert my rpg into ACE. All the events can just be copied over (which is really good, and the most important part), and also allows me to work on the maps and make much more diverse items. It will take some time, but in the long run I feel the improvements will benefit the game (they have, infact, already!)

I would strongly recommend to use at least some scripts. There is bunch of battle bugs in a default engine and vanilla combat system is very dull to look at.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
