Most of what has been posted on the forums and otherwise indicates that projects made using VX Ace CANNOT be ported to Android/iOS or the 360, yet then we have this little "gem", which appears to use a number of RPG Maker assets:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny&hl=en

So the question is, CAN a project such as our game VoltAge be released with a reasonable amount of effort onto the Android/iOS markets, and even 360 marketplace?

We had been operating under the impression that our best hope was to release it on our own website, the RPG Maker homepage, or perhaps Steam.

No. The makers of that game somehow managed to port it to other devices.

It's possible there MAY be converters in the future, but MOST RM games that have been converted for iOS and Android to date have been in breach of the EULA and done without the permission of Enterbrain and Degica.

The consequences of which were what, exactly? Not that we would consider such a thing, but there have been posts in other threads in a similar vein, and the prevalent attitude seemed to be one of indifference or confusion...

What exactly ARE all the options for a release of a VX Ace project?

I'm pretty sure the people who managed to make a conversion for Android didn't sell or release any games in that manner, mostly just as a test of knowledge for themselves. It could be a possible future official addition to RM if they perfect the method and share/sell their conversion to Enterbrain/Degica. That would be nice.

Windows only, unless you have an OS wrapper like WINE for Mac & Linux, then you can release it for those platforms.  As for mobile platforms, you'd have to either make a brand new engine (which they did) or hack the executable to work on a mobile device.  Using RTP resources in an engine outside of RM/IG is never possible since there's no license that exists to cover that and hacking the executable...well that goes without saying.

Right, aside from them asking you to change your graphics that are illegally used (RTP resources), if you don't comply, they are well within their rights to sue.  Fair warning.

Actually, they did. It's being sold on Google Play, Steam and the Windows Marketplace. Still, illegal anyway, freeware or not.

Yeah no, we came into this expecting not to release to android, etc. so it's not a problem for us :)

But, man wouldn't it be nice if we could take a stab at the people who buy from "Kemco the Cookie Cutter Co", or the company which shall remain nameless that just keeps releasing games from the 90s for $20+ ? <sigh> Wishful thinking....

What about the IG Maker? Is it possible to use that to just port over stuff from other projects? or does it have to be redone completely from scratch?

Speaking of "Kemco the Cookie Cutter Co", I just looked at the screenshot for that RM game in the link you brought up on Google Play, and boy does it look like a cheap beginner's project. xD

Well, there was an official announcement that an Android exporter was being developed, but it's running into issues due to the Ruby conversion.  The language that powers Ace's script system is not really implemented (or at all) on mobile systems or consoles, so making an exporter that will accept Ruby and spit out a game that will work flawlessly on a mobile device is difficult.

Patience is the best thing for that right now.

IG Maker has a few more options. It does XBox by default, and has a Flash exporter, so in theory, anything that can run Flash, can run an IG Maker game.

I've seen a number of exporters/converters, and they've all had issues with one thing or another. I've no doubt that if someone DOES manage to create one that's bug-free, handles custom scripts with little to no modifications required, and runs well on other platforms, Degica would happily talk to them about it. It's something we've all been hoping for since the release of Ace.

The two big things, legally, are that hacking into the files created by RPG Maker breaches the EULA, and a custom engine would have to do that if you weren't writing the whole thing from scratch, and that the RTP resources (and MOST of the resources available in the store and all of those based on the RTP) can only be used in RPG Maker or IG Maker. So if you do write your own engine, you're not able to legally use those resources, so you'd have to completely replace them. IMO it's better to wait patiently for someone to get it right and for Degica to work with them to release it to the community - then we'll be able to convert for other platforms WITH Degica's/Enterbrain's blessing AND be able to use RTP and RTP-based resources, since the converter would be an official product.

On the other hand, they ARE only charging two bucks lol. And they're on Android AT ALL: pBut Shaz, does IG Maker have the ability to use VX ACE files?

No, it's a different game engine. I believe you CAN interchange SOME resources, but I really haven't played with it at all since just after it came out. You can't start a project off in RPG Maker then continue it in IG Maker, if that's what you're wondering - they're completely different.

The only thing that's really interchangeable between the two is the audio & graphics resources (again, I'm not exactly sure).  Mind you, you have to own both Ace and IG to interchange the resources since it's required that you own the Maker that the resources belongs to before you can use them in another Maker.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
