(Trying to keep it short! <3)

I threw together a test map, I want the game to have only image-backgrounds without tilesets.

What's the minimum dimensions you have to make a background image before it won't repeat/parallax?

Do I have to just make the background a larger void to avoid any parallax?

I've been trying to use plugins but maybe I'm using them wrong / using the wrong one.

(Background image is 640 x 352)

So something to remember is that parallax backgrounds by default repeat when the image dimensions of the background itself don't fit the map you have.


For instance, let's say you make a map that is 17 in width x 13 in height in the engine.
Well, remember, for each "1 square" inside the MV map engine, that is really 48 pixels by 48 pixels.

Doing the math:
17 x 48 = 816
13 x 48 = 624

So the total dimensions of your map size is 816 x 624 pixels.

What this means is that if you give this specific map a parallax background that is smaller than 816 x 624 pixels, it's going to have to repeat somehow, because the game engine wants to fill in all of the black void with that parallax image.


I tend to just use an art program to scale my parallax images to my map sizes (GIMP).

I also found a working plugin filenam 001 fix thing to hold it still

No problem!

But I did wanna point out, I got that 17-pixel-width-thing from the Map editor menu in the MV engine.

You know how you can change the size of your game maps in the editor? I just chose 17 and 13 for the sake of an example.
Those are your squares.

But in general, what I mean is that every single "square" inside your game editor is really a square made of 48 x 48 pixels. So you have to multiply the squares horizontally and vertically to get the true pixel-dimensions of you map.
