I started using RPG maker when I was 11 (14 years ago). I moved on to GameMaker after that, and then got into web development.

I want to come back to RPG maker so that I can get directly to my creativity. I've got a story to tell and I'm hoping I can make some extra money off of it.

When I read that I can make exports to all platforms I was sold.

I can't wait to meet the people here.

Welcome aboard. I ran a trial of MV and I can see that JS performs significant better than the Ruby engine did.

The fact that you are familiar with web development should make you feel a little luckier than others, because html5 exporting is not an one click proccess as you can already imagine.

Game Maker is also magnificent, but it is a little expensive.

It has its pros and cons, but MV still is the best RPG out of the box engine to develop a classic RPG.

What makes it better than the others is:

1] Better working enviroment design.

2] Better graphics and assets

3] JS instead of Ruby (no VM involved thus performance is better)

4] Front view OR SIDE VIEW Battle System implemented.

5] More global built in starting assets.

6] License that gives you the opportunity to use those assets to make commercial games, including the right to build new ones, giving attribution and using them only with RPG Maker series if you own legally MV. (There is no simple or easy way to be right, I had to tell all these! )
