@R4B Aaaah, okay. I thought you meant something completely different. That's totally doable in one month. I figured you were going for your own thing with this set but I also figured the offer wouldn't hurt.

Jeez you guys are too fast. It's 1/1 6AM and this thread is already two pages (;; ゚д゚)

2015

 • Finish and release Chapters 1 and 2 of RHD (~half of the game)
 • Finish implementing all the missing gameplay mechanics: conversation skills, martial ('kill things with pointy sticks') classes, prestige ('kill things with pointy sticks that are also on fire') classes, the journal (/Quest Log/Bestiary/Codex) and crafting.

January

 • Get a working version of the journal up
 • Start working on the crafting UI
 • Update the maps for the first major hub location in the game. The maps are I made for that area are a bit old now, and I've changed my mapping style a bit since I created them.

I decided to start a separate thread for those of us who have as a goal to release our game this year. You can find it here: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/35435-release-a-game-in-2015-challenge/

1.1 Update: Added more items to the game. This broke the database, so I had the *fun* of finding all my old potions and making sure they no longer gave out the super powerful potions too early in the game. Also added a sidequest to Chapter 4.

Already managed to implement the talky scenes to start Chapter 4, and the party is ready to explore the world. Now to map until my arms fall off so they have places to go and monsters to slay.

2015: The big goal of releasing a commercial version of my current game.

January goals:

 • Tileset progress - make enough progress that I can map a 10-level demo.
 • Game mechanics - get scripts and design first 10 levels
 • Other - complete 10-level demo (really not quite as daunting as it sounds with the first 2 goals met) and create project development thread.
 • Obtain title screen art

A day late, and this month is going to be hell, as RL has a couple of mega events coming up, but I think I'll join up as a way of keeping at least some focus.

This month I aim to complete my 'weird' dungeon. This involves creating some more tiles and doing very heavy editing to others to get the look I want. Some quite complex maps to do, but nothing over 50 x 50, so not so daunting.

Done the ordinary enemies, but need to refine the stats and skills of the boss.

Then do the post dungeon cut scene.

If I'm lucky I'll be able to rough sketch the layout for the next town where there will be a major plot development.

January 2, 2015: Well, didn't made anything yesterday because I was doing some other things xD but was thinking on what to do, today I started to keep mapping the outside of a house, I made the house already before but the scenes and the people is what is left on there, and the outside, which I am going to make scenes with christmas things for a guy in school that wanted to see a video with christmas things :) Not going to post screenshot yet because it's very incomplete haha, but let's see if I finish more tomorrow and then post a screenshot :)  I made little but still trying to do something and getting back haha xD

1.2 Update. I spent all day updating the numbers in the database for the weapons in an attempt to have better balancing than "throw a number here and hope it sticks". Also tweaked the weapon names to better follow the progression of the story and where you would be and when (for instance, Dwarfen items are now at the right spot in the list for when the party finds the Dwarfs, and so on). Also did about 50% of the armors, got to finish those today.

Also saw floating 13s in my dreams. One should never stare at the database for 14 hours in one day.

There are many reasons for not staring at the database for 14 hours in one day.  Floating 13s probably counts as one of the least of them.

I am going to have to reconsider my cost:benefit ratio when it comes to making/editing tiles.  Having finally arrived at a suitably weird door for my weird dungeon, I have since spent over 3 hours animating it - difficult because of the shape of the double doors and the door frame.  This for a door that the player will see just once for maybe 45 - 60 seconds max (unless they stop to stare and admire; unlikely).  I really question whether that was a reasonable length of time to spend on such a short term asset.

In December my band and I released our first EP and we gave it for free.

For January I am composing music for 3 different projects (one of them is my game :) and my goal is to have at least two songs for each. Also I intend to have an hour of gameplay in said game so I am mapping and building the story like crazy.

For 2015 my goal is to create an engaging story that people will enjoy and upload music for you guys to use.

Well, I've actually had this done for two days but forum going hasn't been on my todo list lately. @_@

This is just a bald, naked template. I could probably continue to touch up the lines forever (and will) but for my first attempt at doing something like this, I certainly am not disappointed. I think I won't know my final feelings on it until I create and color a character. I'm totally thinking cell shade. My chunky lines still look like my chunky lines but I've been able to refine them a bit.

As much as I like drawing I genuinely also enjoy doing my face generator edits. It's fast, fun and easy for me to make entire emosets in just hours. Blah, choices!

Current goals

 • Make a character using my template
 • Start and perhaps finish a music commission that just came in
 • Do part three of my face generator editing tutorial
@R4B The tiles are looking really good. I think the greens are pretty perfect and that the tree ties in with the grass very well now.

@ksjp17 I'm looking forward to some screen shots if you're up to sharing them. It sounds like a lot of care and love is going into this dungeon and I'm always fascinated to see what people do with edits.

@Marsinge Oh my gosh, you changed your name! Make sure to show us screen shots! I love looking at maps. XD

1.3 Update: Database for weapons and armors all redone and rebalanced. Most of the rebalance is for stuff the party will find in Chapters 4 - 6 so (thankfully) I will not have to go find all instances of the items in the game and fix them, for the most part.

Now after staring at numbers that long I think I'm going to do something else today...maybe read a book? Play a game? Watch a movie? Just something that is *not* work on a database.

@ksjp17: I know, but I wanted to keep going while I was still in rhythm and knew what I wanted to put where and when. As for the time commitment on the tiles, is there any tile set out there that can be used to do what you want?

I'll post a map in the screenshot and maps thread, as I think it probably makes sense not to try and put everything into this one thread.

However, here is a screenshot of my doors.  The shape of the doors and the doorframe (how I wish I'd chosen to do something more angular) is what took the time.

This is less weird looking as a map than the one I'm about to post.  Inside is quite different, but again some very odd objects in there.

EDIT

here is the link to the map I've just posted. http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/27537-game-map-screenshots-5/?p=351222

I took a break from the pixel art and started working on the logo instead. aaaand I finished the logo ... which is odd because I almost never finish things without taking at least 200 breaks in between. hooray :| :thumbsup-right:  #TopClassProcrastination

I've also started working on the farming system and seasons but there's nothing image-wise to show there yet.

I'm really looking forward to your game, R4B.

January is turning out to be just as frustrating as December was so far, but I think I can still make my goals. I started putting together a font for Corsair. I don't know if anyone really is going to use it but pixel fonts aren't too hard to put together and I like being able to say that the set comes with a matching font. Plus I don't have to be as mentally on top of things to make one as I would be for making tiles.

Originally I wanted to make my demo be the first 30 minutes or so of my game but I'm a bit worried about one of the battle systems I'm using so I'm going to make the demo focused entirely around that to get feedback and testing done.

The scripting is about 75% done, just need to add the system for changing targets distance. I've done zero work on the database but I have got some concept graphics for the battler finished.

I should be on track for a demo either next week or the week after.

@R4B

I like that logo. Nicely done.  I know what you mean about procrastination.  I think I could write a Doctoral dissertation on the subject.

@Tarsus

Looking good.  I wish I could script so that I could do things like that.

And now, I present a statue of the boss of this area.  Trying to get everything to tie together visually is taking a lot more time than I had hoped.  One thing I'm going to have to decide is exactly what to do about screen tinting.  This is in the 'inside' part that you reach by going through the door I posted about above.  By the time you reach this room your eyes should be well accustomed to the lighting level (impossible to show in an editor screen shot); but even so, the boss sprite when it appears on map is probably too dark.

EDIT

Here is a screen shot showing the boss when it appears.  Opinions?  Too dark?

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
