When monsters mysteriously attack the hometown of our protagonist, Jay, and his best friend, Carol, a talking lion appears, telling them of a wizard named Antignarot trying to conquer the world. Jay won't let that stand, so he and Carol join the lion (who claims to have once been a man named Atolla) and set off on a journey full of basically every RPG cliché in the book, such as a hunt for magic stones, monsters that attack randomly, keys that mysteriously vanish when used, and NPCs that don't know when to get out of the freaking way! They travel to an icy ruin, a fiery volcano, a forest populated by dragons, a cave that was once a training ground for ninjas, and other such locales. Along the way, they meet some allies in the fight, but also discover that Antignarot, dangerous though he is, may not in fact be the biggest threat around...

To those unaware of the original, Jay's Journey is a satirical (but full) RPG that I released in 2002. Jay's Journey Reimagined is a remake in development for RPG Maker MV! And just like the original, I hope new players will find both fun and laughs from the new, but even old players might find some surprises!

FEATURES:


- An element system for all units... though seemingly-identical monsters don't always have the same element...

- Dungeons with puzzles (and not just "flipping switch" puzzles like the old game!)

- Shopkeepers that gripe at you in silly ways if you talk to them from the wrong sides of counters.

- Unique skills for each main character.

- Kitties! Who talk! (Well, okay, just the one, and he's not really a kitty, but don't tell Max.)

- A ferry system for quick travel around the world (replacing the lesser vehicles that clogged up the original - and the boatloads of money you had to spend on them!)

- Yanfly's CTB is used for battle.

- An original soundtrack! (Though the demo still uses a few RTP themes.)

- You like cards? Don't play games with these; you use them to learn new magic spells for your party members!

- Secret scenes and sidequests.

- New areas, new plot details, and new dungeons.

- And hopefully a few laughs along the ride.

(NOTE: All graphics are, for now, to be considered placeholders. I plan to hire an artist eventually, but have not yet done so. This is not a topic for hiring, however; I'm just saying.)

Yes, that's right, Jay's Journey 2: Worlds Apart is now officially un-canceled! Furthermore, it will be included with Jay's Journey Reimagined as a double feature!

At the end of Jay's journey, the heroes believed they had sealed away the demon Xanabas for good. However, a mere six years later, Xanabas returns, stronger than ever! As Jay heads out to stop him again, something strange happens, and he finds himself in an unfamiliar forest surrounded by unfamiliar towns, where everyone talks about how Xanabas already rules the world, assisted by a team known as the "Aurora Generals". Now Jay finds himself needing to save two worlds, and perhaps discover some unexpected things about his own past...

Familiar faces return, and some new teammates join up as well! A mute artist, a clueless knight, and a bubbleheaded mermaid (who is actually a genius summoner) are just a few of the new faces you'll meet in Jay's Journey 2: Worlds Apart!

FEATURES:

- It's not just Jay's journey this time. While Jay is adventuring, his allies have their own stories to tell. At various points in the story, you the player get to choose whose story you'd like to follow next! Don't worry, you'll get to come back and play the other characters' stories later.

-Two world maps means twice as much game to play!

- If you already played the original, skip playing Jay's Journey Reimagined if you like and dive right into Jay's Journey 2! Or...

- Complete Jay's Journey Reimagined and start a Jay's Journey 2 game with your save data! This will unlock new bonuses, new scenes, let you bring over some of your old items, and will even allow you to reacquire some of the Jay's Journey characters not otherwise present in Jay's Journey 2!

THE DEMO
The demo features two early areas from Jay's Journey Reimagined and two early areas from Jay's Journey 2: Worlds Apart. NOTE THAT NOT ONLY ARE ALL GRAPHICS PLACEHOLDERS, BUT THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF ATOLLA AND KANOS IN BATTLE. Also, it is known that Ames and Kanos don't have their special skills set up yet (Nosage and Needog are only guests and won't get special skills), and that selecting targets with a mouse (but not a keyboard or controller) can be glitchy when Cindel is using Leap.

Which set of character icons do you guys prefer? Yes, I know I said these are potentially just placeholder graphics, but it's still a question whose answer could prove useful even if and when I do switch the graphics for these characters. I've been split on this.

Great game btw! I don't really have any other comments than that.


DEFINATELY the second set. I don't like the angryness on the face of the first lot. It's why I edited the SV battler body of my generator to be happy!

Even though they were the RTP characters, these designs look plainer to me for some reason. Maybe it's because you're going for more realistic designs. Are you planning on including voice clips?

Well, I can say I'm not using anime hair colors (it's not my thing) so maybe that's it? But then, later in the development cycle I do plan to bring in an artist. And, yes, voice actors, too, of course (though, like in the original game, I can voice some of the characters. Jay and Max are near-certainties, and perhaps a few others. I'd like not to have to be Gaia's voice actor this time around - pitch-modified or otherwise, that's just silly.)

So an update:


There's a ferry system in place in this game that I've been working on! This means all those minor boats in the original game are completely obsolete! See it in action:










(This video uses some placeholder music tracks, and graphics are placeholders as usual.)


You'll still get some vehicles later in the game, but this will be how you get around for a lot of it.

Just bumping with a little trick using the Variable Mix BGM Manager, showing the next town just past the tower in the first part of the demo. And, yes, I'm still around. Have had a busy time lately.

That's cause we got used to Jay looking like he had some kind of constipation and having blue hair.

I remember when i played the game and i didn't recruited Ames to my party and i got pissed, and how the characters kept complaining on how they needed an airship.


Pretty happy to see that you haven't given up on your projects! Please don't stop!


Also why Jay from J2 looks cuter?

I know it's been a while since you asked the question, but for what it's worth, I like the first set better than the second. Also, I didn't have time to play through much, but I played some of the demo and so far I really like it. :)

Topic has been quiet for a while. I have not forgotten this project; I just don't have much I'm in the mood to give updates on!


Though to that end, I've been posting some music tracks on YouTube. Some of them are in the demo, but there are a few new ones here and there. Take this one, for example.


There are actually ten on YouTube so far. Three of them aren't in the demo at all, and one of them is an update of a track that is. The other six are, admittedly, just tracks you can hear in the demo, but still...


I really will need an artist at some point. As you can see with Atolla and Kanos in the demo, anything I haven't been able to scrounge up on this board, make in the Character Generator, or make myself with my limited graphical art skills is just a bunch of placeholders at this point, and even for those characters I do have, things like Ames's headband not matching his hairdo bothers me. I'd strongly consider putting up Atolla's and Xerxes's(Jay's Journey 2 character) themes if I had good sprites for them...

EDIT: Wow, the new forum format doesn't seem compatible with this topic AT ALL. Fixed the video in this post. Will have to work out how to fix the images when I have time.
