Hey, it's Jo again! ~
My monster pack has been recently released at the official store and I'm currently working on a second one!
So while I work at it I made this thread, both to showcase some of my process and thoughts and, more importantly, to get your suggestions and feedback for the next pack!
A preview of some of the monsters so far!

Aaaaand a Bestiary, using Venka's Bestiary Script, to showcase some of the upcoming monsters:

Most of the monsters on the upcoming pack have at least 4 alt versions!
What sort of monsters are you looking forward to? As last pack I've done a fair share of magical monsters, I'll try to make more physical creatures this time around to balance it out. Hoping to hear exciting suggestions from you guys! :kaoluv:

Some ideas in mind for next packs:

  • Underwater pack / mermaid pack
  • Arcane / Magical pack
  • Digital pack (as in data-based creatures, hard to explain)
  • Futuristic, cyberpunk pack
  • Kingdom pack (kings, queens, royal wizards, all the way down to soldiers)
  • Villager pack (priest, barmaid, stay at home mom, stay at home dad... lol)
  • Steampunk pack
  • so much more, but I'd love to hear suggestions from you!!! :kaoluv:

they look nice!
one suggestion is, maybe you wanna think of adding character sprites for the map.
probably alot of work.. well, could be aswell an addon to the pack.
anyway, I think, specially for boss monsters they would be needed.

as for "physical creatures", a half human/half machine type would be cool.

Thanks! I'll take the machine hybrids suggestion to heart -- they won't be in this pack since it's more medieval-ish but you got me excited to do a futuristic pack : D
As for map sprites, they're a wholly different type of resources really and it would take me probably more time to pixel the map sprite than it takes to draw the battlers, which in the end might not even fit the style of your game (say, you dont go with RTP templates etc)
I might, though, eventually do it for some.
Another possibility is collaborating with another artist to do map sprites! I'll look into it.
I recommend though, if you're not using random encounters, simply using an elegant generic map sprite for all your enemies, color coded for tier.
In my own games I tend to use a blue flame for regular enemies and a red one for strong ones.

Update: Added a few bestiary screenshots with new monsters! Steadily working on the pack, more than 50% done!
...I just messed up big time a few files today but it hasn't set me back much lol, anyway, hope to see you guys working with these sprites <3

Hi, Sorry if I just asked since this thread was created a few years ago.
I am very interested in the design of your monster, it's very compatible with the actor battler sprites in your first picture. Are actor battlers in your picture also available in this pack? if not available. Do you sell it in another pack? I am very interested in battler monsters and the actors' sprites.
Thank you!

Thank you for your interest! Unfortunately, these actors were a work in progress (and this whole thread is a work in progress thread) but they wound up Halted. I eventually started work on another actor style which, if enough interest exists, might get actually released! :D

I still haven't determined the SV Battler style that I use, Sprites. That's very amazing. It would be better if there is an idle animation, this is very creative.

Anyone here managed to never burn out on programming? My current limit is 3 months(6-8 hours per day, 7 days per week, 50 hour programming week on average), and then I just have to take a break, sometimes lasting few days(with at most 2 hours on programming per day). I've been always like this so far, so I admire those who can always be so passionate on programming :)

Automatic level scaling without an option to turn it off can be a very bad choice for a game. The worst I've ever seen was in Nightmare of Druaga, where if a power outage made your system turn off, the game detects it as an attempted cheat and overwrites your save while taking away your best gear, leaving you unable to progress at the late stages of the game, and unable to recover.
Problem with sequels: Heroes getting rid of all their items and forgets all of their skills within the span of a year without explanation. :kaomad3:
I can see the end of my prologue. Perfect time to decide to pull everything over into MZ, right? Right?!
