Hello all! It's (almost) July, and you know what that means...everyone duck *firework goes flying by*. Great, they blew up the banner. I think the J was seen heading to Indiana and the Y to Canada, so let me know if you see them.

Anyways, post your July Goals and Progress here.

Hope to actually release a demo for once. I have literally been using RPG Maker since 2013 and have never been confident enough to release something.

Finally have the motivation to really work on a project and get something out there! SUMMER GOALS HERE WE GO.

It's time for me to finally get started on the project I've been wanting to do for awhile now. I'll start with some graphical work and go from there.

All my work shifts are online for the entire month of July, which gives me plenty of time to watch Net...game make? We'll see what really gets done though.

July Goals:
-Make final decision on The Book of Shadows Title screen. Need to make this in the first week of July though.

-Work on the Shipwrecked! game. My goal is to map and event the following: The Town, the Old Graveyard, the Forest and the Mountains. The flex goal is to also map the old Jewel Mines and the region on the other side of the mountains. If I get that far the game will be about 50% mapped.

I well I've been working on a bunch of evented slot machines

3 Slots - Player Presses 1 - 3
4 slots - Player Presses 1 - 4
5 slots - Player Presses 1 - 5
All in 1 - Player Presses 1 - 5
3 Slots - Completely Random
4 slots - Completely Random
5 slots - Completely Random
All in 1- Completely Random

I built the All in 1's first and the rest should be cake. should be able to finish these off or at least get them finished, polished, debugged, and stable, within no more than two weeks. Could be much less depending on how much time I can put in. By mid month I hope to be started working on some evented card games. To start with I want to simulate Casino, Gin Rummy, and a game I invented. I'm thinking of calling it Tug O'War. No doubt this will use hundreds of Switches, Variables, Common Events, and Parallel Events, maybe even more than that. But all Switches and Variables can at least be re-used for any single use purpose whenever not playing cards. I re-use them whenever possible as a rule. but up until now I only needed 26 common use variables. Now I need a bunch more which means I may need to relocate them all in the data base. I am loathed to have to do that again, but luckily I can anytime I want. By end of End of July I expect/hope to have the beginning's of a Virtual Casino which I hope to eventually sell.

Due to delays.... version 2 of my RPG project was put on hold... then I procrastinated slightly... but hoping to get some more voices put in and finish eventing the after credits scene. I now got all the missing voices for the main character I discovered I had (so I had to contact the actor, whom got them to me as swiftly as he saw them). May be slow.... but..... labor of love. I just hope to get it done before July ends xD

*Find enough energy and motivation to place all doodads on the 100x100 maps I have.
I habe completed the 1st floor first since this is where the game starts. Ground floor, 2nd floor and 3rd floor are still to be done. But they're almost the same so I can just copy the map and make some changes here and there. The doodads part will kill me though.

*perfect the evented stealth system for various situations. Currently the enemies only chase the player if they are within their area of sight. I want to make some additions like what haooens when the player runs into the bathroom stall before the enemy sees them. Practically thr enemy shouldn't find them but in the game, they can. Now they just stand infront of the door and the game freezes. -_- Have to fix that and add player hiding capacity.

*Write out some nice lore even though I'm bad at those stuff. They will be collectible throughout the game and it is a vital part of the gameplay as they give clues and info to progress in the game.

...posting at the beginning of the month and then only at the beginning of the next month sounds like a bad habit, so...

July goals:
  • try to post more than once per month I guess
Also, open the window, my old plans are outdated (and boring!), out they go!
  • create rough colour concepts of all the rooms (Ned's room, Faye's room and the living room; the bathroom got cut, I really don't want to deal with passability in there, Faye's room will be bad enough)
  • colour versions of the placeholder tiles, I need something prettier than 40% grey everywhere to motivate me
  • rough but coloured placeholders for busts, at the very least for Ned, Kay, Ceyas and Faye as those four are (potentially, in Ceyas' case) on the critical path for the planned demo
Trying to be a bit more aggressive about getting to my demo goal. Let's see if that works.

Finished the last unit charsets today.
Goal for this month: Get attack animations and portraits for as many of the remaining units as possible done.

Time flies fast.- For the first time in 6 years of making with rpg maker, I have worked almost a full year for a game I have had a team to work on to make an rpg that will stand out with artstyle and systems. Can't wait to share it at this forum after being part of the community for some time.

Well, just to make a reminder for myself, I’ll respond to this post.

July Goals:
- Finish The first part of the final area of my game (the first part of the final area is where all the action goes down! Death, Betrayal, you name it, the first area will probably have it.)

- Finish converting the Death scene movie into playable form.

- Blueprint The Map Of the second part of the final area of the game (the boring area.)

Thinking about what I have left to do with the game, If I really work hard, I can probably finish the main game and most of the Optional Areas before the end of July. :)

Got some progress done tonight!

>Created and mapped Earth Tower.
>Created Earth Tower’s Boss Battle
-Now I have to implement it onto the map
>Tested the Battle out with a rough sketch of what the party would be. Good results and although the fight could stand to be harder, I’ll need to test with the in game party to get the best balance.
>Hacked up the Golem sprite from XP for prettyness purposes of said boss battle
>Added a bit of chatter to a maintown citizen (Tommy)
-He still needs more chatter

It's hot here. I'm still at 30+ hours. I'm gonna try anyways.

July goals
-Start setting up the buildings for the university. I have holes on their exteriors.
-Finish figuring out the event problems I have in the VR Simulation and the 'prologue' of the story. I need to switch from Mora to CD, and switch from the lab to the apartment, fix music cues, have Shawn following Mora. Etc, etc.

Progress update:

Ned's flaws are even evident when I'm just trying to find an aesthetic for his room. Like, I have to pry his interests and hobbies out of him. You know the feeling when you think you know someone pretty well and then it turns out they've always been super vague when talking about themself so you actually don't? Imagine that happening with your own character you've made up fourteen years ago.

My next step is figuring these things out and finishing the colour/mood boards for the three rooms. Thankfully, Faye's very honest about her interests. ...Designing all those covers and posters will be a chore fun.

I always smile to myself when I see someone do the "immediate halt and spin around" from forgetting something. I find it sort of endearing how we all do it without ever being taught to.
I've been viewing trailers and product banners on Steam as part of studying marketing for videogames, specifically JRPGs. There's a huge gap between the top and bottom in terms of quality and even a mixed review game can have a much better look than a game with great reviews. I can see why skilled publishers become attractive (for hire) to many aspiring game devs.
