Whats a .chm file? Been doing some script modifications, realized a problem with the external note loader, mybthreat system is now more configurable and I still cant figure what the last Art of the defend set will be.. I'd also be toning down the slash set arts as they are far too strong I think

@Adiktuzmiko, CHM files are essentially a help file format made by Microsoft. Some programs use this file format for their help format. Thought that it would be easier for users to find something that they need to.

It's nice to see people progressing while some other defined their goal. Being lazy, I'll just say : congrats to everybody !

A little bit of progress for me :

- I started mapping the underground cave for my new mission

- I'm done with the events of the main island. For people who try my game (if there is any x)), be ready to answer general knowledge questions on the upcoming mission (or to look on the Internet if you don't know the answer). You could also guess, since it's one chance out of three, and generally one answer is just purely ridiculous :D

- I set up the basis of the enemies on the island; this time some fights will be easily avoided, since the monsters will hit really hard !

That's it for now, since I'm again playing too much other games, I didn't make much more progress.

So I'm baby sitting my little bro from 4 PM till 9 AM tomorrow. Thought I'd get in some work on my Equine base. Thinking that all I'd need to do was touch up the neck. But then it brought up to my attention that the length was bugging me. 3 hrs later fixed all the bugs. Well I think I did on the length only to find out that my width while proportional is to thick. So I'm going to need to find some more reference images and get working on it tomorrow XD.

Here's the side btw.

So, I've made a little progress. I've done some work on my database (added a few items), and have started working on the sprite for my main character. I'm no sprite artist, but I'm pleased with how it's coming. I've sucessfully animated a few poses as well.

@TheGreatEater May I ask what that is for? 3D rendering is interesting to me.

@Chiara - Erika sounds hilarious.

@DragonVine, I'm making a series of RPG's starting with an Interactive PnD for an interconnected Multiverse [Chained Destiny series]. One is called the Chained Fate Series, has no human actors (The Equine Race which I'm making first. Has Earth Ponies, Unicorns, Pegasi, Zebras, two Elf-based races [Mareians]. Then I'll be making Gryphons, Axex, Minotaurs, and Satyrs.), the other one Path of Blood, is based off a PnD game me and my bro made.

@All Holy moly, that's a lot of progress so far this month! I'm hoping it continues for all of you.

Sun 7.5.15- Gave the Ancient Dungeon tiles a try, copying one of my recent maps to a new project and converting it over. I like the new cliff tiles, but the old colors. So, I'm a bit torn between the two. Otherwise, they seem like a close fit, which makes sense as it's by the same person.

Mon 7.6.15- Fixed up the South Renzan Foothills and Renzan Forest- South maps with the proper cliff auto-tiles and reducing vegetation somewhat.

Tue 7.7.15- Fixed up the Lakeland Highlands- Northeast and Northwest maps. Some places that were sand cliffs were changed to allow better fit of the plant tiles, and one that remained a sand cliff got its vegetation replaced by rocks, boulders and a few dead trees and bushes instead. Perhaps that area once was lush and green.

For Wednesday, I'm thinking of fixing up the Lakeland Highlands- North Central and some of the Lakeland Sands maps, before things can finally continue on. While I've lost a lot of time on fixing things up, I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run.

Glad to see everybody making so much progress!!! :wub:

July ..., Progress:
Welp. This past weekend was pretty hectic at work (our office was closed on Saturday, so everybody and their brother decided to come pick up their dogs in the 3 hours we were open on Sunday x_x), so not much got done. Fought an internal struggle not to redo all my maps with the Ancient Dungeon tiles, and also was a little bit inspired by the IGMC. I probably won't participate, but now I've got a simple game idea that I may be able to whip out sometime in the future.

These were the two protagonists from my IGMC idea.

@Mirpono

Hi, don't see you often but when you post a drawing it is cool for the eyes :)

@Ksjp17

Ack IGMC is started... what worst moment to contat my fav RPGM sensei to pick a theme or start a game :p

@Chiara

for a diceless rpg game it start well as to make a genre choice, flipping a coin is the equivalent to roll a two sided dice. XD

@TheGreatEater

Well we can affirm one thing over this; if one day you are tired of ponies, you will have great experience at least in 3D modeling and something to show in a porte-folio!

@Hollow

Nice couple. :)

And... Well, got heat striking today. All usual lab denizen were in a semi-shut down state. Using the cool night to heat/power up Photoshop! (Got nice African supper and beverage and provisions for the fridge... Just forgot the turkey legs!) Will get a $Dragon head faceset soon. BTW Chiara, someone asked on my basic extension sprite set thread, if I would provide recolor of that draconical challenge of mine.... I answered that you had an idea to make a stoned version of it! :p

@Marquise*, Tire of ponies? Blasphemy * le gasp*. Seriously though, that's true. Regardless of how this series pans out. At the very least I'll have one killer portfolio, and tons of experience. Oh, and good luck on the facesets ^_^.

________________

I can't wait to get the proportions right. Once I get my EPs done, rather than the cliche'd showing a walking animation. I'm going to animate an Arena battle. One male, one female. Lots of awesome combat. Well at the very least a minuets worth. Post that baby up on Youtube and link it here. It'll be epic. Also my bro still hasn't come over yet, but when he does that'll make for some awesome motion capture images.

Not sure where exactly to put IGMC progress updates, so I'll just plop it here, for now ... at least, I think we can post about our games. o:

Oof, after two days I am ... almost finished with the title and introduction scene. I really am trying to go fast, but I did a bit of custom code to make everything look -- hopefully -- pretty. Anyhoo, here is the main character, Auco (online alias, not actual name). The mask is virtual, and not physically worn. The game will be in two or three different four color palette styles.

I also typed up and created a simple teaser picture.

The premise of the story is that technology which can extract psychometric(1) data from simple, everyday objects has been created, allowing the user to peruse snap-shots or roam through entire virtual environments constructed from multiple objects; a boon to historians as well as law enforcement. The technology has been praised and condemned, a key to unlock history and a fatal blow to privacy. Although banned, civilian psychometric devices have become a hot item despite the danger of mental impairment due to improper use and the restriction of only being able to use previously parsed data instead of directly reading from an object. Particularly technology savvy individuals have started to modify the hardware and tweak the existing 'reads', creating puzzles and games out of hacked together history. The main character, Auco, is on the bleeding edge of the rapidly growing online community broadcasting live playthroughs of the altered reads.

(1) Some believe that an object can 'see', or that we as human beings emanate an aura which imprints onto an object, leaving a visual record or mental fossil. Psychometry is essentially the supernatural/paranormal ability to read that impression.

@Exhydra: I have to say the concept looks pretty neat and controversial. I like it! I'll make sure to play it next month :)

As for me, I hope I don't burn-out because I've been scripting (not much, just a few edits), eventing and setting all kind of stuff together in the IGMC project. I like the result and progress thus far I just have to keep it up! Working in team also helps and makes the whole thing a lot more fun! I'm considering recruiting a male voice actor for a few text lines too. We'll see...

So far only the two finishers for the defend set needs to be done and that set is finished.. Been adding new features to some of the scripts to allow me to do more, things that I should have added when I first made them. Also fixing some.

Progress:

  • Unsurprisingly, our pending project's release is behind schedule. I've relegated my remaining part of the graphics work to my partner so I could buckle down, finish all the needed functions and stamp out all the bugs I could find. Will definitely be finished early tomorrow assuming nothing else remains grossly overlooked.
  • The IGMC theme is pretty good, if a little too broad to really help with coming up with anything. Because I still have no idea what kind of game to make. And I'm supposed to be involved in two projects. Bleh.
Goals:

  • Game 1: Brainstorm with partner at work for game mechanics to build into.
  • Game 1: Code a playable build over the weekend.
  • Game 2: Meeting with interested parties on sunday to see if we have anything we want to do. Actually, no. I should probably check out whether or not it's even worthwhile pursuing something with the group, what with time constraints and all.
  • Putting together my first script which I hope to be a basic framework for creating Visual Novels on RMVXA. The idea is to provide a menu with the following options: Move, Talk, and Inspect. Talk and Inspect searches the map for NPCs with the matching tags and puts them into a menu list for the players to see and trigger. I had asked for a script like this back on XP and did get one, but I lost that a long time ago. I don't see any other scripts like it floating around either so I figured giving it a stab would be worthwhile.

Couldn't post yesterday, as RL intervened just when I had intended to do so.  RL today is also making it impossible to do a lengthy post, so although I've read everyone's post, I haven't time to comment on them.  I see some good stuff, though.

My Update

Strategy Guide.  Essential and tedious.  Make mapshot.  Annotate, insert, write text.  Repeat.  I have 311 maps in the game.  Fortunately not all of them need to be in the Guide (what would you say about the 9th Item Shop?)  But that still leaves a substantial number to go in.

It crossed my mind that as players seem to like my Strategy Guides, I might make a tutorial about how to go about it.  More and more commercial games have them, and a lot are bad.  Dunno, though, if there'd be any interest in it.

@ksjp17: I'd like to see a tutorial for how to make one. Right now mine is limited to just a readme with suggested tactics in my game.

Not much update, still traveling and on game making break. Plan is to resume game work about 7.15 or so, depending on work obligations. However, I have been thinking more on the weapon balance, and I lean to three different ideas:

1: Make the boosts from weapons minimal. Maybe that awesome sword is only +50 ATK? If I went this way most gains would be from leveling up. This would give the player the option to buy the weapons, or just grind a little and forget about the weapons.

2: Make the boosts from weapons a percentage of the character's stats, which is what FFX did (+5% ATK, +10% DEF, etc). The problem I see with this is how to make the weapons different from each other. Might have to have one weapon for each stat, which would make 8 total (if I had one for HP and one for MP). Or, I'd have to remove the ability of the player to choose the weapon they use, and have one for each character then.

3: Keep the current system, which is the starting town has a restriction on what legal weapons can be sold (good weapons are only allowed to be sold to the military and the guards). From there, the Dwarfs have unrestricted weapons (2nd zone), and Fairies enchant the weapons and make them even better (3rd zone). Haven't figured out beyond that, though it has always been in the plan that after Fairy Enchanted weapons the weapons become really rare and hard to find, as they require rare metals to make.

@Chiara - I do have a deadline, otherwise I'd spend most of the month hemming and hawing before making a decision.  Gotta decide by Sunday, or else!
@Exhydra - I know that there's a thread over on Game Dev Fort that's dedicated to IGMC progress updates.  I'm just gonna keep doing my updates here, so just post where ever you prefer. :)
@Kyuukon - Good luck with you IGMC project!
@ksjp17 - A tutorial for making a strategy guide would be great.  I tried making one once and it pretty much ended up as "Just don't die".
@bgillisp - All three ideas sound like they could work.  Though my usual way of figuring out weapon balance is to just give each character one weapon, so I'm probably the wrong person to comment on this.  :guffaw:

I managed to kill one of my ideas, so now I'm down to three possible games (though it was about ghost hunters, so hopefully it doesn't come back to haunt me).  Unfortunately I haven't been able to decide between the remaining three.  I've been adding details and trying to figure out what I'll have to do for all of them, but right now they all pretty much have the same amount of details.  I had hoped that throwing together a few screenshots would help make the decision easier, but all it did is make me want to make all three games.  :headshake:

The first idea is about how seven wannabe adventurers met.  Because the best place to make new friends is jail.

The second idea is a detective game where you have to figure out who killed a poor apartment owner (hint: the butler did it).

The last idea is the story of a guard who has to protect a princess.  Expect the princess to get kidnapped/lost/possessed by demons often.

@ksjp17, a tutorial on making a good strategy guide would be pretty awesome.

Rested today, and was grinding on my second day of Mana Khemia 2. Got all my Grow Book filled, when I ran into a game glitch that erased all of my saves from the game. Now I have to restart the entire thing. Seriously peeved at all that lost progress. But at least I know when making my own games. Make sure no such glitches exist on my stuff (seriously you'd think that would be one of the first things you'd look to fix on a grind heavy game like the Mana Khemia series.). Tomorrow I go back to working on my bodies ^_^.
