Oh my, there are some serious goals being set this month.  And a good diversity.  It will be interesting to see what happens if/when IGMC starts, how that impacts on people's progress.

@Hollow

That is a very nice map, it gives a real sense that a particular individual lives there, rather than it being some generic house.  That's something I've found a bit hard to put into this project, as it is a world more or less without reading and writing (so no books, scrolls, bookcases etc.), before mechanical clocks, all sorts of things like that, which has made house interiors tricky.

My update

Saturday (I think it was) I mentioned that I was trying to do a round tower.  Well, here are 2 WIPS showing where I've got to.  On the first one, the odd bits of green are falling leaves.  I will probably change the style of leaf, but it will stay overcast and gloomy.  Our intrepid heroes will have to get in past the overgrown door.

The second one is, as you'd expect, the interior.  I still have to work out tinting and lighting, but as the tower is abandoned there can't be torches or braziers or things like that, so it will have to be solely from the windows.  Unless, of course, I can come up with some creative way of explaining some lights in there, but at the moment nothing comes to mind.  I was slowed down a lot on the interior because I discovered that Mundy forgot to put any shading on the pillar of the spiral staircase, so I had to stop and put some in.  Otherwise it looks totally flat.  I think I shall have to work more on the shading.

Welp, since I posted my goals first thing this morning, I thought I'd go ahead and post what I've done in the time since then. :)

June 1st, Progress:

I went ahead and started inputting some enemies into the database--stats are currently placeholder, but I just wanted to get some names in there. There're three separate gameplay sections in this level, but so far I've only got the first section's enemies down.

In addition to that, I started and finished one of the four maps I need to get done. Of course, this is the smallest one by far (there are two 30x30s and one 60x60 left), haha.

Ohh man o_O I thought that was the biggest map xD

My goals for June:

1 - Get back on YouTube

2 - Become more active on the Forums

3 - Keep working on Felicity

4 - Try to push for a Alpha build

5 - Try to pay my Minecraft server bill... (This one will be hard)

6 - Finish the DOTGaming website

I hope this month goes quite well!

So my a-must-do goal for this month is to finish everything until the 5th town including:

  • Quest (both main and side)
  • Enemies (in map, and in database)
  • Shops (3rd-5th Town)
  • Towns, Fields and Dungeons (4th-5th town, 2 dungeons, and fields surrounding 4th-5th towns)
  • And many more...
My optional goal, in case I'm done with the above, are:

  • Starting making the other route (yep, my game will let you choose between 2 characters to start with and it will make either of them as the protagonist)
  • Release a demo
And my progress so far, because my not-so-good condition is almost gone, is that I made the players whether they want to have that zooming (camera) effect in battle or not.

Just a quick question though, what is the other term for evented encounters? :D I'm planning to have the player choose between random and evented encounters before the start of the game, that is if I can. I'm asking this because maybe some non-RM players will be confused on what evented encounter is.

I took some time to work on another part of the game (that turned into its own script), but this month I definitely absolutely without a doubt must:

  • Have the combined selling + battle scene playable.
  • Have the battle system completely functional.
  • Have enough varied spells and items to test the core parts of both aforementioned systems.
I've cleared my calendars and made sure I can focus 100% on this, so I have no excuse bar the crazy things that have happened lately that have forced things to take more time than they should... But I've thrown garlic and anti-trouble potions everywhere to ward off such evils!

June's goals:

I am hoping to get quite a bit of graphics completed, improve my walls and hopefully, learn a new technic or two.  I am in the middle of creating my science fiction tiles and hoping to create starships if possible.

@ksjp17 I want to say there is a tint already, though those could just be some really green plants. But I think you could even go with more doom. Maybe use some deeper shadows around the edges to play up a weaving, windingness. But the tone is already really coming through.

Ok, my updates as of tonight.

  • I got the majority of the lines on my next concept art done. I'm way too tired to finish the small details. That will be in the morning, which shouldn't take me long, which then means I'll get to color it soon.

*GASP!* TWO PAGES ALREADY??? o_O WOAH! I'm late in here!

Better start now, but I warn you folks that THIS IS my special month!

So last month goals that I started or tried to do on 100%

-FINISH THE DRAGON! (as in NOW! XD )

-Log twice where I know!

-Don't take more projects before June!

And I guess I could try to make two of the rest of the extensive list below;

-Get a new Custom Housing! housing,

-Do a signature VD0

-Do Banner graphics (I know I made one last time but it was more of a test. :3 Well at least Shirley Temple dragon got attention and use there!)

-Do one of the things in my TO DO list in Custom Housing!

-Translate 1 of my own copyrighted IP script in English or RPGM 2K3 in French

-Get Zoag more elaborated dope-sheet

-Pool-list my game ideas

-Classify by importance my game ideas from non-commercial to commercial.

And I better now read how well all of you are faring and edit the post after word. (grr dragon! At least it ain't a bed bug!)

@ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

WOAH! Nice neat visuals! I wanna see your game more of it soon!

@bgillisp

Have fun! It is cool seeing folks having fun with the administrative side of gaming. For me it is the pleasant as making push-ups part... when I'm able to do some!

@Ms Littlefish

Looks a bit like serigraphy but with maybe a color too much for quadrachromy. And you are aware of all the symbolism you have in there?

@Chiara

^^ Compared to me you<re always more discrete but you are way more structured. Hope we'll see soon a glimpse of all that works you do. ;) (Iknow some projects have to stay super secret.)

@hiddenone

Good luck within your researches it seems you want to achieve homogeneity in your game design. It is very well researched to have well brushed up games. :3

@Mushinronja

We'll be there to support you! You know arachnids are super patients?

@Mirpono

Take care! Not just on-line, not just of yourself!

@Hollow

Woah! Here someone who doesn't need to visit my Custom Housing! ^^ Uh well it puts less pressure!

@ksjp17

That's rather central! ^^ Hope it won't collapse! Who's tileset is it?

@DOTCreeper

I kinda understand some of the things you are going trough.

@Jeneeus Guruman

Woah zooming camera. The only thing that made me realize Don't Starve! wasn't RPGMaker at start!

@Caitlin

Aaah! Starships and RPGs ^^

@rondchild

Very concise, very few words... but I don't trust how unepic this reads since I saw what looks your work. XD Have fun!

There was a lots of folks to comment on today... OH! We are already tomorrow!

Goals:

Reach 10% completion (currently just a bit short of it. By the 30th it should be possible)

Reach the Great Bridge north of Renzan Town (that's not that many maps away from the Lakeland-Renzan Cavern exit)

Bonus:

Open game topic (there already is one at the Game Dev Fort, just not here)

Best bet: June 13-19, 20-26. So-so: June 1-5, 6-12. Worst: June 27-30 due to approaching July 4th holiday (and possibly one of the days from June 10-13). Father's Day and Flag Day shouldn't impact development, though the Stanley Cup might (and has, June 6-12 would have been best bet otherwise). If there is a Game 7, it would be June 13.

@Jeneeus Guruman

I give my players the same choice and I use the terms visible and invisible enemies.  No one has ever said they didn't know what I mean.

@Marquise*

The tileset is something of a mixture.

The tower walls are my edit of RTP, though the 'ceiling' tile for the interior is mine from scratch (like, 2 minutes, so easy) because trying to make ordinary ceiling tiles into a circle is next to impossible (imo).  The floor tiles are mine.  Window is a slight edit of one by Pandamaru, door RTP with colour edit, stairs Mundy with colour edit and shading and original floor tiles removed, trees with leaves are edits of some by Nyanko Temple, dead trees are slight edits of ones by ayene,  Err, I think that's everything.

@Marquise*: It's actually a Tankentai Ace feature. The zooming effect is sort of like this in my game.

@ksjp17: Visible encounters. Thanks for the info. I forgot such simple words to describe it. :D

6.2 Update: So the skill redesign war continues. I now have 7 of the 8 magics done, and 1 class skill done as well. However, I also had the bright idea to redesign my states database to make it easier to navigate, so about 10 hours later it is done, but now I need to go and see what I broke in my weapons and armor (items are fixed already, as are the skills for the items I've already redesigned). Fun times.

BTW, if you ever get the idea to redesign your states database mid game, may I suggest doing something more fun, like say watching paint dry? At least it gives me a reason to watch a movie and say I'm working still.

Yea I spent quite a while fixing up my database, and that meant having to fix every item chest and shop along the way too. I might even need to do it again, I'm hoping I added enough space for future additions, lol

@MsLittlefish

I was thinking about the comment further down about the length of her arms, and it seems to me that her arms are more or less in proportion to her body, but that her legs are extremely long as the total, making her arms look small.  At least, I think it's that way round.  But overall I like the feel of her.  I think she looks like she'd be an interesting person to have around.

@Denna

Good luck with the exams.

@bgillisp

ah yes, renovating the database part way through developing the game.  I had to do that for my last game and it taught me such a huge lesson that this time round my database is a model of organisation - at least it is in comparison.  I'm sure it could be even better.  So I deeply sympathize with you.

@Bear

I like that map - at least, I assume it's a map, or will be.  Or is it a backdrop?

My update

You might remember me saying about the need to do more work on the shading of the pillar in the spiral staircase pieces.  Did it, at the cost of some eye strain, put it in, went to start eventing the transfers, and only realised then that Munday had done the initial piece with the spiral going in the opposite direction to the middle piece.  Had to flip it and redo all the shading.  Not thrilled with life at that point.  Earlier, though, I sorted out a way of doing something which means that I haven't got to pay $20 for a script to do one action during the whole game (trigger a cut scene when something is equipped for the first time).  I'm really pleased about that because I'm over budget, and the problem with Tsukihime's scripts is that it is payment for every game, not like e.g. Effectus where you buy the script and can use it as often as you like.  So it starts getting very expensive.  Other than that, some minor bits and pieces on tiles, and a bit of mapping.  Downloaded June REStaff Resource and spent a bit of time putting a couple of items straight in to the area I'm mapping at the moment.  So the release came at just the right moment for me.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
