Hello, everyone~! :kaohi:

I'm Zebestian and I'm a self-taught, amateur composer who mainly focuses on video game soundtracks. I also do the occasional voice acting and I'm trying to get into sound design at the moment.
Been using RM for quite some time now. Since 2012 I think when I got VX and I've been (seriously) making music for a little over four years. Nothing's ever been featured in a game and I haven't got that many commissions yet but I'm trying to stay optimistic! That's why I'm here. I want to share my work with as many people as possible~! :kaojoy:
I'm not going to lie here: I'm also looking for some sort of appreciation to keep me going. It's really hard to attract people with music compared to, say, visual art. So I hope I can find some friends and fans here who are willing to support me just as well as I'll be doing my best to support them~! :kaoluv:

See y'all around!

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Knowing where to post your work can be a bit confusing at first, so I thought I'd explain where you can find the various more specialised forums.

You might want to think about posting in 'Art, Literature, and Music' forum. Another option - and it can be both/and, it's not either/or, would be to open a workshop where you take requests (if you do). Workshops are for free items only. If you just want to post a few tracks which people can use, then they go in General Resources. Paid commissions can only be done in the Classified section, and you don't yet have access to that. This post explains what that's all about.

There, I hope I haven't forgotten anywhere. I think you'll find that composers are popular on this site, so you should soon get to know people.

Now that's what I call a warm welcome! Thank you~! And thanks for giving me that little overview over all the sections I might be interested in! Definitely gonna use those a lot. And it's great to hear that composers are popular on here. Looking forward to interacting lots with everyone~ :kaojoy:

Your music is so up my alley. I love that it's so melody focused but certainly doesn't skimp on rhythm. Cinematic music is SO huge these days (not an issue by any means) that I cling tightly to my melody-centric folks. The instrumentation in this is perfect and it hits all the right moods.

I'm just trying to reflect what I like and what I think is fun to listen to in my music. Cinematic music sure has its validity but if I play a game and can't whistle a melody from it, I feel like I missed out on something. Call me old-school for this but I enjoy a good phrase, a good leitmotif, a good melody more than the might of an epic orchestra. :kaothx:

Thank you, thank you! Nothing makes me happier than people enjoying my work! :kaoluv:

I'm pretty similar. I like signability. I like songs I can get stuck in my head. That's what I tend to reflect in my music, too. So many cinematic scores have impacted me deeply and emotionally, they definitely drive narrative and feeling...but I can't say I always walk away remembering exact phrasing from the music. Ideally, there's a pleasant mix of the two. :D

It's always a matter of "does this fit". Of course a cinematic score makes sense in Hollywood productions and the gaming equivalent of those - high budget, triple-A games. But like you said, ideally there would be a mix between those two. Maybe I'm gonna attempt that some day~ :kaopride:

Excellent piece, Zebestian. I've been a musician (Guitar mostly) since 1990, though I've given it up within the last 5 years, so I certainly appreciate music. I would be interested in hearing more of your compositions. :) Oh, and guten tag.

If you want to hear more, you can always check out my Soundcloud or YouTube. Or, which is probably easier, you can look in my music thread here. I'm gonna post all my new stuff in there too~! Thank you for the welcome! :kaojoy:

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
