Just a recolor for you from VX Ace

I was making a recolor for a character in my game, it came out alright so I figured I'd just share the thing for anyone to use. My first recolor:

I never liked how he had green hair. What was up with that? So I just went with black and slightly darker blue eyes.

Recoloring sprites isn't that difficult, it takes practice, I suck in those coloring things but I managed to recolor some of my sprites to look the way they should corresponding to their portrait, just takes practice.

I have found a few apps that I believe work wonders for spriting and coloring if you want to try them.


On Android, I use an app called Pixel Art to try my hand at spriting. iOS doesn't have this app sadly.


On iOS, I use Color Effects to do recolors, as it automatically changes the whole picture to greyscale, you can zoom almost as far as you like, there are different brush sizes and opacity levels to slide to, and you can mix colors. There is also an "original color" option. Android has this same app, but it isn't as great.


I usually save the files to my Dropbox when I'm done so I can access them from my computer later. You may want to try out these apps.

Pugh, interesting!  I would have never though to use an app.  I suck at original art, but I like recoloring so I'll have to give that a try!  Thanks for sharing the idea.

Here is an example of a recolor I did. Originally, it was a Grey Knight from Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. Now it is my Mardi Gras Knight xD
