Hey everyone,

So a little introduction.
Khas has left the rpg maker scene entirely and has stopped making and supporting his javascripts.
There is no response on any of his available contact links.
This makes it so that nobody can get a commercial license for some of his scripts that require it.
I have currently only found this script : http://arcthunder.blogspot.com/p/khas-advanced-lighting.html to be using walls to block light. Version 4.0 Ultra has real-time shadows, but it is performance intensive.
But khas made sure to make it as lightweight as possible, wich it really is.

Here is a demo that will show you exactly what I mean :

This makes the light in your world very atmospheric. something I am going for.
I'll also add the extensive tutorial for this script : http://arcthunder.blogspot.com/p/tutorial-advanced-lighting.html
There is currently not a good replacement for this very lightweight plugin with these capabilities for rpg maker MV.

So now comes the question :
Does anyone with scripting capabilities have the time to revive this masterpiece and maybe earn a buck or two for commercial use.
I for one will buy it instantly if someone decides to rewrite this into his/her own code.
And I am pretty sure it wil pull alot of attention from other enthousiasts, both casual and professional alike.

Tank you for reading and hopefully until soon!

I don't know if ?????? has completed his lighting plugin, as I've not been around much recently, but he was working on one which did all this.

Can't seem to find it though.

Shora was working on a similar lightning plugin. Though I'm pretty sure some folks have already used Khas's script in commercial games. I don't think it could be considered "bad behavior" from an ethical standpoint since you've made an effort to contact the man.

i really hope so as I cannot drop this plugin atm ^^
If khas apears after my release and demands payment. Is it posible for him to ask a percentage of the games profit or can he raise the price insanely high?
Just making sure I won't shoot myself in the foot here, I don't want to say khas would do this.

I don't think you should be worried. The pursuit of any legal actions from Khas is highly unlikely.

Although it is highly unlikely that Khas will find out, that doesn't mean that using it without permission/payment is ethical. "Not being found out" doesn't change the nature/legality of the act.

^ this

I don't think anyone can give you anything more concrete than Archeia's post saying she *thinks* Khas opened up the lighting plugin for commercial use but didn't update the TOU. Nobody else but Khas himself can elaborate any further, and this isn't a guarantee. So you need to ask yourself if you're comfortable using it in the event that this wasn't the case.

Doing it anyway is arguably unethical, but at the same time there is literally no other option available to you besides not using it, and at the end of the day Khas created plugins for people to use them.

It's *possible* for Khas to find out you've used it and tell you he wants a share of the game's profits, but I've never known him to be greedy, so it's highly improbable that he'd ask for anything ridiculously high from you if that does happen.

Unfortunately the bottom line is that your choices are now "use it" or "don't use it" and none of us can give you a concrete answer as to how Khas would feel about that.

At this point just use it or don't use it. I'd just keep contacting him every day until your game is done, and then keep on contacting him, and then keep contacting him, and continue the cycle. Something is going to have to happen, or at least I hope ):

Hey there! I'm entering my 3rd year in CompSci and wanting to create multiple large projects to demonstrate my coding skills.

In short, I'm interested in recreating a plugin similar to khas' advanced lighting plugin and am wondering if you (@TwentyFree ), or anyone else, would be interested in sponsoring the creation of this plugin. I'm definitely not a novice when it comes to rmmv and js development, so I don't think recreating this should take too long, as well as adding some possible extra functionality to it.

As for the terms of the completed plugin, I'd do it similar to Khas, whereas the non-commercial version is free, and the commercial version can be bought cheap off of itch.io.
What do you all think?

This sounds awesome.
One extra functionality I would really like to see is a z-axis tile.
Setting any tile from a tileset above the light to create perfect doorways for example. My maps currently have real doors without transitions, so there needs to be a way to block the light on the doorframe. Atm this cannot be done because when the player enters a "lightzone/region" he literally enters it and iluminates it from the inside. Making it look weird and breaking the lighting illusion.

I've made a post about the plugin I'm developing for this!!
Feel free to try out the demo project that's linked with it, and let me know in that thread what you think, and what you would like to see the plugin do next! :LZSjoy:

AAAGH... I hate navigating the new RPG Maker website!
Forgive my rudimentary video editing skills, thought I'd start sharing progress on my status posts as well. Here's the second character of my roster, Mǽlhafoc, the Ælven ranger.

And if you missed the first one many moons ago, here's Vilhelm, the tarnished knight.
Knocked through three more rough draft sprites. (A frog beast thing, a skeleton, and vampire bat) down to seven sprites and a thing more appropriately done as tiles.
