I am making a game with a kid character. I thought about having a shadow monster steal his clothes, so he will briefly be running in his underwear until he catches it. It's for comedic effect Afterwards, he gets his clothes back. Is this okay to do or is it wrong? I know Diary of a Wimpy kid has an underwear scene in it, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for your help.

You could always have the kid wear an under shirt of some kind so the whole sprite is covered. But, kids running around in their underoos is a pretty normal and natural occurrence. It's only weird if you make it weird...which. Y'know. Don't. lol.

It's so weird to me how sensitive some folks have become to anything related to children. There are folks who are like "adults shouldn't even be talking to children!"...but it's like...whose gonna teach them?
The weird shift in cultural taboo of anything related to children is baffling to me, people need to relax, because they're the ones making everything weird by making anything that has to do with children off limits.
I distinctly remember in...maybe the "red flags" thread from months ago someone saying "any games with children is just yikes."

Anyways, children are children. Like the little fish said, just don't make it weird. With children being held as such a sacred temple, accept the possibility of a small subset of people still getting upset anyways.

Your question is prbably stranger than a kid in underwear... I don't understand what would be wrong with that? It's just a funny scene, and the character won't be naked, so what's the problem?

Wait until they all learn about the perfectly normal photos parents took of their babies and toddlers before the Facebook era. I was a little one in Miami... I think there's more pictures of my siblings in me in underwear and diapers than not. The funny thing about kids is they often decide how much clothing they want to wear whether the parents intended that or not.

Anyway, I suppose it's getting a bit off kilter in here. But, 100% a kid in undies shouldn't ruffle any feathers, and any that choose to be ruffled, ruffle on.

I think part of the reason people are that way is because nowadays there's a lot of pedophiles out there and such and people want to protect their kids from sexual predators, but it shouldn't get to the point where you teach kids they can't trust ANY adults, not even their own parents or family. That's ridiculous. The pedophiles and all that are just a small demographic of weirdos and sickos who are only one of the very smallest parts of adult society; it's not like they're everywhere. You don't want your kids to grow up to be overly suspicious and paranoid.

The internet made the pedophile problem a lot worse. You used to only have to worry about local pedophiles; the internet makes it so they can be anywhere in the world, and they're very much visible online now.

I really don't think there are that many more predators. As goes with many things, it's less so that there is more of a bad thing...and more so that we hear a lot more about the bad things. We used to have no 24 hours news and no social media websites. We're also more connected these days, including the bad people.

Societies do change though. What was safe to have on camera film really probably should not be posted on Facebook.

Anyway...this poor forum user. Posted a question and YUP.

Plus you're also forgetting the fact that Facebook in itself is not very secure. Many, MANY people on there have been hacked and had their identities stolen. It's extremely easy to do that because of how open Facebook is with its data storage, plus the sophisticated tools hackers use nowadays. I mean, you can always be hacked on any social media platform, but Facebook is especially vulnerable. I've always stayed away from Facebook, and I urge everyone else here to do the same.

Nah man. Why would the shadow monster steal his clothes but not his underwear too?
Fully.
Nude.
Video game child.

Hire an artist to do a real nasty close up like on Ren and Stimpy too.

(tl;dr nobody is going to care if your pixel kid in a video game is in underwear, you just won't be able to submit it to Christian Mom's Gaming Magazine this month.)

It'd even be ok to have him be naked, just don't make him have PARTS. Nobody wants to see that......

Inside the Spoiler is an image from a game called Count Lucanor, which is readily available on Steam and other platforms. Take a look. I would say your idea is "tame" in comparison.

@SpyroFan67 I could be wrong, but I think that might be an NPC that was transformed into a goat and maybe back again? I can't remember. I started playing the game, but I didn't get that far in. The severed head of the shepherd and the dancing cannibal goats are pretty creepy too.

It is all about context. A shadow monster stealing someones clothes (seems more like a poltergeist to me, though) isn't a weird thing. Okay it is, but funny weird or scary weird, not pervert weird.

But then again, it might also depend on the country you're in. In some countries this would not be considered okay. So I guess it is not all about context... It is also about culture.

My son runs around in his underwear all the time. It's only weird if you make it weird.

And btw... There will always be people who try to make an issue out of it. Specially if you release it to a wide audience. My advice is to completely ignore those who try to make more out of it then it is. No matter how great the urge, replying to them will only make things worse. In those cases remember:

Anything you say online can and will be turned against you by angry internet trolls.

Google "Pokemon is the devil" and you see serious grown up people with an education telling full rooms about satanic symbols in pokemon... If you reach enough players, you will also reach the nuts.

Just remembered one of my favorite albums as a teenager. It's amazing how music can take you back.

The downside to wearing my work clothes: When it rains heavily like a monsoon outside... the water renders my clothes basically transparent. It's... an adventure to get home like that, to say the least. Thankfully, it doesn't rain here that often.
