Koruldia Heritage is a story-driven RPG with merciful fights and non-linear progression. The game combines various exploration views in a unique pixel-painted experience.

An original feature of Koruldia Heritage is its battle system. It includes the classic capabilities of turn-based JRPGs, yet you can hack some of the confrontations and resolve them peacefully. Will you bring your enemies to their senses?
    Choose between predation or compassion

Most battles start when you touch an enemy. Try avoiding them or fight them on purpose. Your battle style is absolutely up to you but be careful as your actions will have a direct impact on how you and your loyal companion evolve. This four-leg creature is a reflection of you.

    Fight sequence example (predation)

You will explore an alien world named Korulimbo, meeting friends and foes alike.
    Into the overworld
    [IMG]
    Exploring the overworld (surface)

Go beneath this overworld to face riskier but more rewarding challenges as different kind of monsters hide everywhere. You’ll stumble upon many shrine entrances that can lead you deep into the dungeon entrails of Korulimbo.
Get rid of the weaker monsters directly on the map
At the end of each shrine challenge (puzzles or battles), you’ll unlock a special room. Each shrine is linked to a sleeping master: look at the big cube at the center of the dungeon. This device allows you to dive into the memories of its dungeon master to solve a trauma of their past life. Maybe it's a dream they could not achieve, a search for closure or total madness…

All the stories are interconnected. These people knew each other and you will have to connect the dots.

“Don’t expect many details when you dive into people’s memories!”

This explains the 16-bit pixel-art style of these sequences! Reminiscent of Super-NES RPGs like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 6.

You are lost on Korulimbo, the moon of a remote planet. Reconnect with a forgotten culture and travel with your loyal companion, a creature made like you from bio-technologies that question humanity's heritage.

    You and your loyal companion
Each path is different. You will navigate through an in-depth story that reacts to the way you deal with confrontation.
    A safe haven

      • A rich narrative experience: the story unfolds and adapts to your choices.
      • A variety of camera angles: from the classic top views of Final Fantasy VI (III in the US, the game’s main influence) to fixed 3D perspectives like in Final Fantasy VII-VIII-IX.
      • A non-linear exploration: there is no particular order for the dungeons, they are scattered in Koruldia’s open-world.
      • A merciful battle system: you are free to choose between aggression and compassion. If, like us, you love this philosophy in Undertale, you will find the confrontations richer and more impactful.

Koruldia Heritage comes with its unique style. We have developed a “Pixel Impasto” painting technique, free from the pixel-art limitations of the past.

We don't design “dot by dot” nor restrict to 8bits colors, but rather use a free-hand technique with multiple brushstrokes accumulating opacity through stylus pressure. This way, players get the retro vibe in a highly detailed way and take advantage of HD screens!

We have the same ambition for our music. Most of our musical influence comes from the RPGs of the 90s and early 2000s, but simply mimicking the style wasn't satisfying enough. Dibur spent many years refining his sound, so that it captures the true essence of classic JRPGs, but takes advantage of modern audio technology. We call this sound aesthetic “Neo-Retro” and it shares the same ideals as the “Pixel Impasto” style.

Here is an example with the battle theme:

A word to the RPG Maker community!

As a veteran of the RPG MAKER community (started as a kid with RM95, creating ridiculous things I'd rather not remember) I'm very excited to properly present this project to you. You may have heard the name before; when Koruldia was a draft prototype on VXACE, and I really hope that what it has become today will catch your eye.

Koruldia Heritage is now using the amazing RPG MAKER MV empowered with the incredible plugins from this community. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the JS coders. The game wouldn’t be like this if it wasn’t for their contributions:
@Yanfly @Archeia @SumRndmDde @bblizzard @Galv MogHunter and Terrax (can't tag them), I'm so afraid to forget people but I will be happy to edit the post or simply add them in the TEAM (acknowledgments) section of our landing page.

Thank you for your comments you guys, I hope you'll like what the game will become at the end.

Hey, I made a little 3D interactive thing (drag your mouse over it) with the assets of the game:

Well, it's reminiscent of the end of the trailer, you'll know what part. ;)

Visual look of this is very well done. I like those 3D effects alongside 2D ones. Going to see how this goes forward

    Thank you Jayje.

And thanks to everyone who took the time to check the game's presentation or trailer.
By the way it's my last 3 days on Kickstarter, in case you're interested:

The game reached 20 000 $ yesterday (would be $25k if it wasn't for the bad conversion rate caused by brexit negotiations but it will bounce back soon), it's pretty good considering a launch right before Black Friday and Christmas (best timing ever lol) that is not in dollar, about a project without a demo.

This and the fact Kickstarter is now more about creating an event to raise awareness around a project and gain followers (we’re no longer in 2015, lol I sound like it was decades ago) those last 2 points are where things get truly amazing. The number of people who clicked the little heart (to follow) is vastly higher than the amount of actual backers, a good sign for the future.

Thank you very much! Last days were crazy; we made the front page on Reddit and had to fight a few "anti rpgmaker" haters drown in a huge amount of positivity! Really huge.

Now we have 1 hour left and are 257% funded wow, with almost 1000 backers!!

Thanks for the kind words @Padramyr :)
    A little doodle, to celebrate!!

We finished at 261%, we trended at the very last moment and even made Reddit front page!
My gf made this post and it went crazy viral under 1 hour! I have yet to read all the comments.

1,3 million views on the video O__O" almost 38 000 upvotes-pts and 800 comments, we stayed hours at the very top of r/gaming, crazy. Too bad our campaign was almost over at that point.

Well that's fine, people subscribed to our newsletter instead since they couldn't be backers, but we’ll see about paypal (or similar) later.

This is a good sign for the project's future. If I can help fellow RM devs I’ll do my best so don’t hesitate to reach out in 2019 if you have something interesting you put a lot of work in.

Enjoy your holidays everybody, and thanks again to those who helped us!

You worked so well it is publicity also for your future games if you do not slack on quality like some triple A company that starts by B these days. XD Wich I am certain, you won't. Small team = just enough cooks to not spoil the soup. ^^

    Thank you both!

Hehe, yes sometimes it seems like the best way to experience new stuff is by looking at some indies, the good one of course, just like some rare AAA are still amazing in their own field.

I took some rest after the holidays (and KS since it ended almost at the same time) so now I can resume work more seriously, here’s what I’m doing:

And also, first KS update of 2019:

Can't wait to create new maps or monsters to show in next updates. Good luck with your projects everybody!

I've made a little update on Twitter if you want to see:

It's a work in progress of the art-direction I want to achieve in the memory-diving sequences when things get a little more "low-res", so it looks a bit like an "augmented RM2000/SNES game", something like that. Still some work to do, especially if I want it to look cool in motion.
