I bought RPG Maker MV when it first came out and messed around with it a bit, but never really got into it. Now I want to use it for a project, and half of the database is in chinese/japanese(?) characters. I know that this didn't happen when I first used it, and when I check my old game files, they reflected as such. It is only the new files that I create that are affected. I've never encountered this bug(?) in any RPG Maker before, so I'm not really sure what to do, I'm just hoping someone here does.

Edit: I've done some poking around and from what I can tell only the database was affected, which is really weird. I know that I can just rewrite everything, since it's basically a template, but I'm wondering if either I accidentally deleted a file, which I doubt, as I've barely used the engine, or if it's just my computer acting up again. It seems random too, for the most part the upper half of each section will be english while the lower half will be in the other language. For item descriptions, even if the name is english, the rest is in the other language. I honestly have no idea what to make of it.

Edit 2: Fixed it. I just had to update to the newest software. Should have tried that first, I feel like an idiot now.

If you have the steam versions there's a rewrite of the database for fantasy type RPG, that you can use, it's in english.

Nope, I don't have the steam version. Maybe it's because I still have the original version without any updates? I wouldn't assume that would be it, but it couldn't hurt to see if that makes a difference.

Edit: Updating fixed it. I have no idea what was wrong, as the files worked fine before, but now it's back to normal.

RMMV
This problem is caused by one of the updaters from several versions back - it was the update that increased the database from the original small one, but while the full installer had everything correct the shortened updater accidentally only added japanese version to the default project, no matter which language was set in the program.

Easiest way to fix everything would probably be to download the full instaler for 1.3.5 (which is very recently), deinstall your editor and run the full installer again - that would make sure that everything is up to date as well.

If that is not possible, you can use one of the alternate project bases that also were added later, but they need to be copied manually - check the program folder for "Newdata_fantasy_EN" (might be named slightly different), that contains an alternate database to the original one for new project creating.

EDIT: you already did so ;-)

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
