As a counterpart, I've used nothing but Asus for like the last 10 years and have nothing but good things to say about their laptops.

(This is the one I'm using right now, which does fit into what OP is looking for.)

(also before starting with Asus, I used to use Dells. And the last model I had actually had a class action lawsuit because they caught on fire :D :D :D)
Was that one of the dreaded E6400 series?

Also, another vote for Lenovo. I've had three gaming laptops from them and loved them to bits, to the point I really miss the other two I had before my current one.

For quite a few years Asus was VERY reliable but they've had some issues in recent years which is why the motherboard in my current computer is MSI. Honestly right now I'm not sure if anybody is completely consistent in reliability so you really have to do some research on any given model before you spring for it. Any of the big names CAN make some decent laptops. My major experience with laptops though is more of the business or engineering types rather than gaming laptops. Toshiba still makes some good laptops - my mom had one that worked great until she spilled tea in it. I've known people recently who have been quite happy with some of the higher end MSI laptops for gaming. With Lenovo I have.......issues with the company which doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of their hardware. But I will never buy Lenovo due to some history........

Inspiron 5150. The class action lawsuit was eventually settled. I think I ended up with like, a check for a few bucks at most in the settlement ahaha.

I remember that when I was transferring the files from it to my new computer, the only way I could get it to stay on was to sit it ON TOP of the air conditioning vent to keep it from overheating.
