Long time lurker, read a lot but haven't posted much. Just wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed a sizeable increase in build sizes over the past few versions?
I've posted a few games on Itch.io (over various game jams), and I realized that one of the games I posted in 2016 had file sizes of 80 MB (zipped) for both the Windows and Mac versions. Over the years, the size has sat around that amount for each release, increasing to as much as 150 MB in a game that used a lot of custom songs.
However, one that I posted just recently for LD44 was 140 MB for Windows and 270 MB for Mac... I'm really confused as to what's bloating the Mac build size so much.
Anyone aware of the answer to this?
Whatever is causing it, it had to have come up within the past year or so since my builds in 2016 and 2017 are on par with the Windows builds in terms of size.
