So in my game, I have a character named Luke who learns skills not by leveling up, but exclusively by using items called Tech weapons, which basically function like TMs in Pokémon: use them, Luke permanently gets the skill, and the item is consumed.

Problem, though, is that he's the only one who is supposed to be able to learn Tech skills, and so Tech weapons are supposed to only be usable on him. The Item Requirements plugin only applies in battle for some reason, meaning the other characters can uselessly eat Tech weapons and Luke can get locked out of obtaining necessary Tech skills.

Is there any way to make these items usable on only this one character from the menu?

Since you only have one character that can learn tech skills, maybe instead have the item call a common event that gives him the skill without having to select an actor?

This isn't made clear in the Item Requirements documentation, but the engine only has a concept of an actor "using" an item in battle, when it's that actor's turn and you're selecting their action on the item menu.

Out of battle, there is no one "using" the item, only the target it's being used on.

Have you tried Yanfly's Skill Learn System? It's pretty much designed to do what you're asking about.

You could definitely do this (although you would still need to select an actor, or the entire party if you set the item's scope to that). You would also have to have the item add and then remove a useless state, otherwise you won't be able to use it.

You could set the scope of the item to 'None' and set the change skill to a specific actor?

You're right! I've never tried setting something's scope to None. It's good to learn stuff

Never? I'm surprised.
If that surprises you, you'd be amazed to learn more about how ignorant I am :guffaw:

Especially since other similar topics have come up, with older experienced users commenting on them, and I've never seen this solution mentioned before.

It works! Thanks! Now I just gotta go through the slog of making a zillion common events for each Tech skill...

It should only be one event per skill...unless you mean you have zillions of skills.

My brother makes some inane complaint about one of my stories in the comment section. My mom: if your bro doesn't understand it make it simpler. That prolly means others have questions too.☺️Me: Sorry. I can't do that. I don't speak stupid.

Isn't "tableau" such a fun word to say? Even better is that our resident artists know what it means without google and probably get to say it regularly.
