Thanks for this beautiful game. I'm playing it but i have a problem. I received the factory keycard, in the factory i go to the third floor but there are some laser that block my way and honestly i don't understand how can i shut them down. It's a bug or simply i missed something?

Wow you got really far, great work! Thanks a lot.

There should be a switch elsewhere in the dungeon that shuts it down. It may be hidden among other 'fake' switches. It'll either be something you pull or a switch you simply step on on the ground I forget which.

Good luck, sorry the battles aren't implemented yet.

You're right around the point where bosses become trivial and die in one hit.

Edit: on the second floor there is a blue chest that i can't open and i really can't find this switch xD probably you hide it too well xD

2 years since OP and still not done

Not Like This

My father always told me the last 10% of a project takes 90% of the time. This holds true here.

Just gotta pump it out. Find a way to ignore the distractions. I guess what's holding me back is the 'creativity' portion of making the game is done. Now its purely a technical process balancing of numbers and testing the same portion of the game a billion times. We'll get there.

There's treasure!

I've been hard at work this past week. The entire game is now full of treasure chests that actually contain stuff, and shopkeepers that actually sell stuff. All of the armor and weapons for the game can be obtained, and they have nice unique graphics. I have also created a fun 'quest' for the end game tier of equipment.

Updates:

  • Created over 20 new equipment icons to make each piece of equipment you gather exciting and fresh (mostly reskins of the default iconset).
  • Created every armor and weapon upgrade in the game, and placed them in the game. Most characters have at least 10 different armor upgrades per slot. If you don't mind spoilers, here is a spreadsheet of most the equipment and where everything can be found:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-1V8v6pL92D5d1xgkhgf87MJ4q2ONXsBMDxqbSAJzz4/edit?usp=sharing
  • Most equipment still needs stat balancing. This will be done as I test.
  • Created the ultimate armor quest. Each character has 3 pieces of armor they can obtain through the quest. To get the armor, you turn in materials that randomly drop in Saga 7 to the quest giver, located in Lydia (Saga 6 town).
  • A full set of ultimate armor will NOT be needed to beat the final boss, but it WILL be required to beat the optional Superboss, Alpha.
  • Defeating Alpha gives you the ultimate weapon, which will allow you to defeat Omega, an even more powerful Superboss.
  • Defeating Omega will teach Jace his ultimate transformation sooner than he would normally be able to, essentially making him a God. This will unlock a special alternate ending.

I should probably make a new package, even though the 2nd half of the game is still ridiculously unbalanced (weak enemies). It has been too long since I've released any changes and there have been a lot.

Remaining tasks:

  • Create Accessory slot equipment
  • Create lots more skills (mostly for enemies to use)
  • Create the rest of the random encounters (Sagas 5-7)
  • Test and balance

^ That's a short list :D

New Package

Note: Package link updated in original post as well!

The end is in sight. Here are the updates since the last package:

- All armor, weapons, accessories, etc added into the game with custom graphics and stats assigned (each main character has over 10 armor sets)

- A quest specifically designed to obtain the ultimate armor for each character

- Endgame bosses now fight back (albeit with unbalanced stats)

- First 3 sagas balanced

- Story, cutscenes, maps all complete

- Item introduced to skip random battles (see original post for how)

- Improved chi fighting system

- More fun battle mechanics

- All characters more developed with more unique skillsets and stats

All that remains to 100% complete game development:

  • Create more skills (mostly for enemies to use)
  • Create the rest of the random encounters (Sagas 5-7)
  • Test and balance

This looks awesome my man, I like that vegeta and goku, while from dragonball z are treated like characters of this timeline and dimension/ world, respectfully so, I like cross-overs when they are bizzare and taken very seriously. I hope there is no mention of DBZ and it is all inclusive to your worldbuilding. That would make me happy.

Thanks a lot for checking it out, read, I'm glad you liked what you saw so far. You may or may not be disappointed in Sagas 4-5 where a lot of the action takes place on the 'Z Planet', essentially the the 'Earth' of the dragonball world. It is worked into a larger plot, but you'll see familiar elements of collecting the 7 dragonballs, traveling to familiar locations like West City and Kami's Lookout, and you'll see the elderly version of characters like Krillin and Dende. This all serves to further develop the main character and the rest of the universe, however. When it really gets weird is when you start seeing characters from other video game franchises (with new backstories).

@reedemer wow, sorry about that. I don't know how that happened. I'll look into the bug and fix it tonight, and then you can copy the save file into a new package.

Was it Chi Blast? I think I know why that would hurt so bad, I adjusted the calculation for player characters and forgot Ghanos uses the attack.

New package with fixed Ghanos damage:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0McICOpmUn2ZHlEWVMyb25LRWM/view?usp=sharing

Just take your .rvdata2 file from your current install and stick that in the same folder of the new install. Should hopefully be a seamless patch and you'll keep all your save data.

Unfortunately, that Ghanos fight is pretty much the last fight that's balanced. But if you're into the story and want to work your way through the rest of the dungeons (plenty of puzzles to come) then have fun!

This package also fixes a lot of text in the first 2 Sagas and re-balances a lot of Saga 2. Not a whole lot going on battle wise after Saga 3 still.

Cool thanks. That's a bit higher level than I anticipated and good to know. I probably lean towards low level in my testing simply because I know exactly where to go. I try to purposely get a little lost but I still probably end up in less random battles than someone playing the first time.

Yeah... Random battles from Saga 4 onward are not balanced unfortunately. That's the last step in making the game finalized. Glad you like the plot though, Saga 4 is imo one of the best plotwise.

Couple minor updates (not packaged yet):

1. Flora's face portrait improved. The source material for her face never had a neck, but I've finally managed to photoshop a neck that matches her proportions and skin tone. You'd be surprised how long this took me lol. More of her ponytail is now visible too.

2. Random encounter rate significantly reduced throughout Saga 3. The dungeons are so puzzle oriented in this saga that it can be really frustrating to both be solving a tricky puzzle while constantly getting random battles. This will also help prevent over-leveling, which seemed to be the case in reedemer's playthrough. I am almost done rebalancing fights in Saga 3 to accommodate this change in leveling rate.

3. Saga 3 conversations and cutscenes massively improved. I feel like I've given more information and flavor through LESS text. The hero's romance with Flora seems much more natural now, and the history of the island of Doria is made much more clear. The Fanatics, outcasts of Dorian society, are explained in much more detail.

4. Various graphic improvement in Saga 3.

5. Two of my favorite songs in the game were not looping properly, with a noticeable stutter every time the song started over (an example is the song that plays inside Zerg's spaceship). This is now fixed, keeping the immersion real.

6. In Saga 2, there are less enemies guarding doors in Utaii.

7. Two songs from Terranigma are incorporated into the game. One for a new cutscene involving the hero and Flora, and another to replace the song that was previously played in Saga 6's swamp.

I'm almost done polishing up Saga 3 and going in order. I should be on to Saga 4 soon.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
