Update:

I thought I'd introduce myself properly, and to tell something more about the game.

I am a 34 year old male from the Netherlands, and I have been busy for quite some time with making board games. One of them, Legends of Idunia, I have made via the Gamecrafter website, and this computer game is directly based upon it.

The game is inspired quite a bit by my personal favorite computer game series of all time, the Quest for Glory series. Especially Quest for Glory 4 made a huge impression upon me. Quest for Glory has inspired my game in a big way, as have games like King's Quest, and even Monkey Island, to some extend :)

The game is now in a rough alpha stage, having been in development for a about a month, but I will continue to work on it until it becomes something good! The game is also meant as the beginning of a series, at the end of the game, players would be able to transfer their hero to the next game, and keep what items and artifacts they have found.

Any and all criticisms are most welcome, even the harshest ones. I have found in developing my board game that the harder the criticism, the more I learn!

But now, Welcome to Legends of Idunia, Hero!

Legends of Idunia is a computer game based on Arabian mythology and the tales of 1001 Nights. In the game, you are one of the royal adventurers of the king, and you have just completed a diplomatic mission at the courts of Sultan Mehmet the Magnificent. On your way back to Idunia, however, dark forces plot your undoing, and you are left in the middle of the ocean, in a small lifeboat, with nothing but your wits and your determination to survive.

Luckily, you spot an island in the distance...a desert island, where many adventures await you!

In the game, you play as a solo character. You travel through the great desert, fighting monsters and bandits, finding ancient tombs, crumbling temples, bandit camps, and glittering oases. You will gain experience, level up and become more powerful. You will find weapons of both mundane and arcane quality, to help you in your battles and defeat all that stand before you. Until you can reach your final goal, to escape the great desert alive.

But during during your adventure, you will find that great events have been set in motion, and that you have a grand role to play in the undoing, or salvation, of the kingdom of Idunia, and indeed, the world!

Here are some early screenshots of the game.

Update: The demo has been taken down for now, working on a new demo.

The new demo of Legends of Idunia is now available!

The demo features the first part of the game, the tournament where you try to become the new
Royal Adventurer of Idunia. The demo still features a turn-based combat system, but this will be changed
to real-time in de future.

Also, the game has been renamed 'Quest for the King' (working title)

I liked the Quest for glory combat style. I recall having played to 2 modern games that were directly inspired, they were very good, maybe you can learn from them. One was Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok. The other was Quest for infamy.

Personal opinion, I never liked the 3d character portraits. I feel they lack personality, don't ask me why. The game concept looks kinda promosiing, as it's different from the average RPG game. Good luck!

I understand quite well, I liked the painted backgrounds in older games a lot, and I personally like the old
Disney movies much more then the new ones. The pained backgrounds have so much more character, soul, than computer generated images.
But that's something for my next game I guess :)

The game has now been renamed to 'Lantern of Worlds', and is progressing quite nicely. What I would really need now, are testers...
I'm on my merry way to find them!

This game doesn't look very good.
It looks freakin' incredible.
If it's testers you want, I'll be posting feedback on here.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
