The battle mechanics of Legionwood 2 are kind of modelled on tabletop RPGs and the video games based on them (ie. Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights) and so you are right -- it actually IS a dice roll. In those games, it's quite common to get a string of bad luck and miss often in the early levels (I remember getting killed in the first area in Baldur's Gate by wandering monsters at least three times), but it shouldn't happen every time. I like to have an element of chance in an RPG as a personal preference to keep the players on the toes, which is why the game is designed like this. This style of gameplay is certainly not for everyone. Many people who are used to normal J-RPG mechanics will be taken by surprise, as Legionwood 2 is more of a J-RPG/C-RPG hybrid than the first game was.

That said, most of the testers have found the difficulty of the game to be managable, and at a similar level to Legionwood 1. I do agree that the opening was a little too hard, so I toned it down and re-released the demo today. If you downloaded it yesterday or on release day, you probably still have the original version. In the current one which I tested today, the first boss was doing a very managable 20-30 damage per hit.

Thank you for your interest, though. Perhaps my next game will be different.

Ok, but while you have only 2 players, It's a bit "too" stacked against the player.

On my 5th try, I managed to get through the initial scenario, barely(I got lucky.  for half the battle, the boss only used weak attacks), and while It's still luck based with 3 people, for what you seem to be aiming for,It's within the range you probally want.

In short, you might want to tweak the starting scene enemies, to not crit so often/go twice for each of your first turns

Well anyway I died half ways through the first floor of the cave, so I guess I'll try again, it shouldn't be hard, I just had unusually bad luck there(double crit, focus fired on a single char lol, it feels like I'm playing DW2 again).

I'm curious -- when did you download the demo file? There have been two versions; one a lot harder than the other. I'm thinking perhaps the download link grabbed the wrong file and you have the extremely hard one. The one I uploaded yesterday seemed to be easy enough, the barbarians only hit for 10 damage.

Once you get a third character in your party, as you said, it becomes a lot more manageable.

Like 24ish hours ago, so not that long ago at all(from your newer post that linked to it).

Yea the DL link must of grabbed the harder version for some reason then, because the Barbarian's reg attacks were hitting me for 15-44 or so dmg, 15.being the lowest

Edit just got around to finishing the Demo, and yea that first area was the only problem.

I like the reputation system, and how your reputations effects other events, that's pretty sweet(although It's hard to fight the urge not to steal lol).

Well, it's nice to know that you enjoyed it despite the rough intro area. I'll have to take a look at that download and make sure I have the correct file up, though. The reputation system is something I really enjoyed adding to the game. Basically, you'll have a whole different game depending on what reputations you have, as quests and chest contents change. Unfortunately you don't get to see any of that in the demo.

Yea, aside from the intro scenario, it was pretty enjoyable(I'm surprised I managed to get lucky enough to beat that intro area).

Yea aside from a mention/notoriety(from the last mission giver in the demo) that I saved the towns people by getting the unlocking charms, the demo sadly doesn't really go into it(atleast I don't think, I could try robbing all the houses, and keeping the towns people locked up lol, to see what happens).

Yea I imagine do to the way you have it setup, it will change things a lot later on in the game, depending on a vast number of good deeds/otherwise evil things you did earlier in the game,

Know what would be cool, is if you made a ending, that if you did everything you possibly could do to be evil, you dethrown the main boss, and you become the new overlord of all that is evil in the world lol.

There are actually two endings where that happens :)

Hello, adventurers! The first ever Legionwood 2 patch is now available. This patch will update the game from version 1.1 to 1.2, and includes the following features:

- Battles during the intro have been made slightly easier.

- Battles during the Hunter's Cave dungeon have been made slightly easier.

- The game engine is now more stable on certain systems.

- A bug in the optional Emperor's Citadel dungeon that prevented the player from progressing has been fixed.

This patch is included by default in all current game downloads and is only required if you bought the game prior to March 9th, 2014. The patch is a very small file (200kb) and will only work if you already have the full version of Legionwood 2 installed. You can download the patch here.

I got this game with Humble Bundle and oh God how could I miss such a gem of an rpg. I really, really love it, it's challenging, the class system is well thought, it's well balanced, the storyline is well written great.

Though, here are some things you should correct :

- Some downed sprites are not checked with "direction fix" (I remember one in the military camp)

- In the very beginning when Felix tells you to equip your sword, if you decide instead to give it a try and make Felix wield two swords you can't unequip it.

- You should definetely change this barbarian boss battler, it doesn't fit in.

What is a pity is that these mistakes are in the first fifteen minutes of the game and it doesn't pay justice to what comes after which is awesome and keeps getting more awesome as long as I'm playing it (I played 4 hours so far).

I guess an update would be highly appreciated and would help you remove some bad reviews on your steam page (don't worry, mine is very positive :p

Great work so far, congratulations!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
