Lemuria.png

You've been shipwrecked and must survive until help arrives, which might not be for awhile.

Story

After winning the lottery, you bought a yacht and sailed far across the ocean to escape the stresses of modern life. Somewhere between Africa and Australia, your boat was caught in a storm. You wake up on a beach, your yacht nowhere in sight. The last thing you can remember is darkness enveloping your yacht as you radioed for help. You need food, shelter, and fresh water if you want to survive until help arrives - which may not be for a long time.

Cast

You

player.pngYou'd trade all that money for a pizza, a hot shower, and a bed.

Crab.pngA crab-like creature. Would go great with melted butter.

Octopus.pngTentacles and suction cups have never sounded tastier.

Cucurbita.pngA remarkably aggressive member of the squash family.

Mycoman.pngOnce you get to know him, you'll find that he's a fun guy.

Poison Mycoman.pngHe's less fun.

Fitobestia.pngIt doesn't seem to like being called Audrey.

Xylogigas.pngA perfectly normal tree. That eats people.

Features

  • Sideview battle system
  • It's you vs nature in a fight for survival
  • Your combat ability is affected by starvation, dehydration, and a lack of sleep
  • A classic retro RPG look
  • Beautiful, appropriate music
  • No RTP needed
  • Autosave
  • Coming soon: Crafting! More enemies! More places to explore!

On "Lemuria"

In order to explain the presence of lemurs (actually various related species of primates) in Madagascar and India, but not Africa, it was hypothesized that Madagascar and India were part of a larger continent, called Lemuria. No such continent has been found, of course, and we now have a better understanding of continental drift. But that hasn't stopped some folks from creating a mythology around the idea of a lost continent, with a lost civilization on the other side of the world from the other mythological lost continent of Atlantis.

All that is nothing but a bit of trivia. The island where the game takes place isn't called Lemuria by anyone except you if you so desire. The game is called Lemuria because I needed a name and I like obscure stuff like this. Anything sounded better than "Stuck On an Island Until You Die From Starvation Because You Ate an Entire Ecosystem," which is rather off-putting and wordy.

Latest Changelog

.3a - The crafting update

  • crafting added
  • enemies chase the player, or run from him
  • temporarily removed weather
  • lighting system added
  • new map added

Known Issues

  • The number of enemies are finite. This is not a bug.
  • Enemies jump and overlap the player. This is also as intended.
  • There's only one item to craft currently
  • There are no lights yet

Thanks for reading my thread. I hope you found it interesting enough to check out my game and give me feedback. I'm a newbie with this and could use some guidance. If you tried it during the Birthday Bash event, please give it another look. I've addressed the more obvious issues and created some new ones I'm sure.

  1. How long were you sailing before the game began?
  2. Who did you radio?
  3. Did they answer?
  4. Will you ever be reunited with Yacht?
  5. Are you in Madagascar?
  6. Does the main character talk to himself?
  7. Can you chat with the tree?
  8. If so, does he give you attitude?
  9. Romantic sideplot??
  10. Do you know how it ends?
  11. The title logo looks kind of poopish and I don't like the embossed effect on the title screen commands.

I like the way you write, so I downloaded your demo. I also like your main character's hairdo.

Looking forward to playing!

1. I honestly haven't given this a lot of thought. Long enough to grow that hair and beard, probably.

2. Everybody listening on VHF 156.8 MHz within range.

3. If they did, you wouldn't have heard them. Radios don't work underwater.

4. I suppose that depends on whether or not you believe that yachts go to heaven.

5. That would be quite a break, wouldn't it? Sadly, no.

6. No, but that's given me an idea.

7. You can try.

8. He'll give you a big hug.

9. Uh... the tree gives you a big hug?

10. Yes.

11. I guess it kind of does. Any suggestions for replacing it?

.3a has been uploaded. Cool new features, really unfair balance issues, and 100% less rain.

I didn't know if I could start crafting yet. Could I have made something in the beginning? I got into too many battles and couldn't heal myself and I died pretty quickly.

You can start crafting right away. You should see the option in your menu. As for healing, you have to sleep. Sleep speeds up time now, so it doesn't take so long, but you get hungry and thirsty in the same proportion.

If none of this is what you experienced, try downloading again. If that still doesn't work, I'll reupload.

Hey so I've played your demo, I like all the hunger thirst etc. bars you put in, it fits the type of game well. The main character looks like Jesus, The battle system is okay, attack animation looks kinda weird but the enemies aren't too OP or anything so that's good, Tilesets are nice not the standard RTP stuff which makes it stand out abit from other games. The mapping is generally well done. I didn't find a lot wrong with this game, at the same time though nothing really jumped out at me or really surprised me. I'm not too sure on what you could do to change that... maybe if you can find and train some of the wildlife so they can fight with you? Or something, I don't know whether you have a weather system in there or not but it might be a good idea.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to playing the updated version of the game!

Thanks for the feedback, @zakattack1989. I agree that there's still not a lot to do. The goal of the game is simply to survive, but obviously I need to make it interesting to do so. I'll keep working on that. I'm trying to avoid feature creep at the same time, so it's tricky. I'm not sure about recruiting the wildlife, but I think I can come up with something.

I did have weather early on. But I changed the script for time so I removed the weather script. Vlue didn't integrate these scripts so I'll be doing that myself. There's also the matter of weather having an affect on the player. Since shelter is an important part of survival, the player should get sick if he sleeps in the rain. However, I haven't quite worked out how I want a shelter made, or where it needs to be placed.

The next update will have cooking.

My apologies to anyone that's been waiting for the next update. I've been doing some home improvement and the project turned out to be bigger than at first expected. Once I have my bathroom back I'll be able to return to this. It shouldn't be much longer, but I've been saying that every day for the last week.

Update: My bathroom is basically finished. However, I have an interview for a job that will likely take up a lot of my time if I get it. I'll continue working on this, but it will be a long time between updates. Thanks for your support.

The premise reminds me a lot with this. I'm begging you please don't make me grind for 100x wooden planks and things of that nature ; - ;

I didn't realize that Deers can grow so big... I almost hit one while going home from work - phew... approx 10cm separated us from accident... (tomorrow link to video from my dashcam). I'm too shocked to think straight.
Just watched a very good drama. It left this very heavy sadness inside me T.T

As a game dev, there's always this other feeling I have after, for example, watching a sad drama: "Understanding +1!"
I just don't know why, but it's funny.
