Hello,

I can do most of the editing I would need to do myself, but... for this one I'm having a hard time finding a suitable base image. So I'm wondering if anyone can help me.

What I'm looking for.

  • Dark theme. Not a lot of color, not very bright.
  • In some way obviously scifi. A window out into space from inside a craft, for example, would be great. But any way that clearly indicates we're in the future and in a tin can.
  • Screen visible, dark (but not off) and large enough to overlay text onto. Using the previous example, perhaps a monitor that's part of the craft's controls. But any alternative that achieves this...
Anyone happen to have come across or know where I might find a suitable background image to make my title screen with?

And failing that... really just any 16-bit art of a space station or spacecraft I could probably work with, anyone know where to find that sort of thing?

Thanks!

A good space scene, minus the spacecraft elements unfortunately, is "Universe.png" found in the VX Ace RTP's "Graphics" > "Titles1" folder or the "StarlitSky.png" found in the VX Ace RTP's "Graphics" > "Parallaxes" folder.

Opengameart.org has a lot of space stuff, especially if you're looking for some nice 16 bit ships. As a bonus the licensing info is really clear so you don't have to worry about accidentally using something that isn't actually free to use.

Yeah, and I can find plenty of star/nebula pictures... But I'm trying bring the player into the scene. Something that conveys a first person view, for a sort of "I'm here in the game"/"I'm in spaaaaace!" effect. Well maybe not that cheerful but you know

That's the hard part x.x

I spent some hours on their site earlier tonight... they've got some nice sprites but I didn't really find anything suitable as a title screen background.

If I had Photoshop on the new comp I'd use one of those starscapes as a base and do up a monitor or porthole for you, unfortunately I don't and the old comp is...toast.

I hunted down the disk and installed Photoshop on the new comp. I used the "Universe.png" from the RTP as the space-view in the monitors and threw the rest together quickly. Is it okay for what you need?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
