Yep, that's all you have to change. Instead of Script, select Game Data, then check Character (Player will be selected by default), and then Map X or Map Y.

And to make it work properly, your full image should be twice the size of the screen, with the 'light' section only a few tiles big. This means when the player reaches the edge of the map and the image isn't being displayed in the center of the screen, you'll still have everywhere BUT the player's location black (you won't see the edge of your image).

Ok so I finally found it. It was just worded differently. On my computer they have it like:

Control Variables [0001: Player X] = Player's Map X
Control Variables [0002: Player Y] = Player'
s Map Y
Show Picture: 1, 'Lighter', Centre (Variable 0001, Variable 0002)
Wait 1 Frame

Yeah, I didn't have my editor open at the time.

So is it all working properly now? You still need to make that 'light' are transparent, if you haven't already done it.

I did, and it still puts the light down in the corner. Something must be wrong with the way I set up the show picture command?

Can you post a pic of the image ur using again? the resized one...

because if that's already twice the size of the screen, then even if you put the center near the edge of the window, it would still be black in all other places...

you can also try the two image approach in case it works...

I meant the image file, not screenshots

but hmmm... it looks weird... where's the character anyway?

Ah wait, Use Player's Screen X/Y, not Map X/Y and try it out... Coz I think the image command uses screen X/Y (pixel based) and not the tile coordinates

Can you post your map without the image, and the image on its own (not a screenshot - the ACTUAL image that you're using).

Then show us the final event that you're using. Are you also certain there are no other parallel process events that use the same image? Maybe something you were trying earlier, gave up on, and didn't get rid of?

Finally it works.

Thanks you all so much, that was a horrifyingly stressful experience.

I'm going to go cry now.

Again thanks for helping me progress further to my goal as I approach my deadline (Wednesday).

I only realized that when I saw the upper left image... coz it looked so weird that it shows below the top portion... anyway, it's nice that this is fixed now

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
