On this forum, text in dark mode is shown white on black, which is great.

But links in posts are also shown white on black, making them prety much invisible, unless you happen to hover over them. (edit: This happens in the editor. Once posted, it works fine.)

This when I make THIS a link to this post, it just looks like plain text.

The same this happens when you are writing a post, and select text (for example to cut and paste, or to change the font, size or color of your text). Selected text is also shown white on black. You cant see what text is selected.

This last problem only exists on PC, not the phone. But it is a problem, specially when you want to write larger posts, like tutorials.

It has bothered me ever since I turned on dark mode. Maybe this was never noticed and can be fixed easily.

But if it was never noticed, then how? Am I the very only person who uses dark mode? Dark mode is fantastic, though. Saves so much battery on your phone, too. Every app and website should have it.

Anyhow, thanks. Hope this can be fixed.

Edit: I noticed that links on mobile show brighter in posts, but not in the editor, where you write the post/reply.

Links look fine to me in Dark Mode, when I'm reading posts--even on PC. But it's true that they are indistinguishable in the editor when typing a post.

This forum's dark mode has so many weird design choices like this, I actually just stay on light mode and use Dark Reader, which looks like that:

It is kinda of funny that a style which is basically automatically generated by this plugin is better than one that was presumably made by a human.

Not sure what kinda dark mode you're using, but I think this link is pretty visible.

That is when the posts are posted. But when you are typing / editing the post, you can't see what you are doing.

The posts are viewed correctly, but they are hard to create because you can't see what you are doing. I did at first indeed say the links showed white on black like the original text, but I did correct it soon after. The annoyance is not in the view of the posts, but in the editor.

What is dark reader? Sounds like a must have! Specially if it is for mobile too. Like I said, light mode is a battery guzzler. :p

---

I like to underline that the problem is in the post editor. I want to make this extra clear, because I don't want this to be flagged as a false bug, thinking I was talking about the posts itself.

Also, personally I care much more about the selected text :p That is just impossible to work with. I can live with the invisible links.

You don't see what you are doing...? Like how you're marking the text, then clicking on link, then putting the link in there...? Sure, the link might not be visible while creating the post, but like... You don't remember what you did 5 seconds ago?

Either way, it's a small change that brings no drawbacks when implemented, so I'd second this either way. Just found it curious.

Yeah, when writing a tutorial, a post can take a bit longer than 5 seconds though. :p But it has not to do with remember what I did. Just mistakes can happen.

What if you go back 2 words, to fix an edit. Your link said "CLICK HER" instead of "CLICK HERE". You add the extra E behind it, and then start typing the rest of your post. The you won't notice if the rest of your whole post would be one big link, because you were still typing in the link description. Or you put the E behind the link description.

Of course you can turn on CC, or hover over the link, to check if you did it right, but you shouldn't have to. It's not a terrible thing, but an annoyance. The not being able to see which text is selected, that is actually a problem though.

When you use SHIFT + ← to select text, you shouldn't have to count your key strokes.

Either way, it's a small change that brings no drawbacks when implemented, so I'd second this either way. Just found it curious.
Thanks.

Edit: The selected text issue seems to be fixed. :) That was quick! Thank you, this will make my life so much easier!

Your link said "CLICK HER"
I'll gladly click her...

But yeah idk. Never had any problems with that, but I see your point of course. And again, since there's literally no downside to making a change here, I think we should have it asap! :D

This is the bit which perplexes me.
I use the dark theme and when I select text it becomes a bright green

Is this the function you are referring to, or are you talking about something else?

It's a browser plugin that attempts to automatically convert any light-mode website into a dark mode version - and it's surprisingly good at it. I just use the Chrome plugin, though it's also available in Firefox and as a mobile app. My eyes highly recommend it ;)

Oh... I have to unsay what I said earlier. This is NOT fixed.

The problem just doesn't always happen. It works fine in this reply, but when I was writing a whole new post earlier, selected text was still invisible. Meaning, using SHIFT + ← would mean you have to count key strokes.

We do like the theme (I'm a dark user myself) but we've been fixing weird things it does ever since installing it. I assume they aren't deliberate choices on the designer's part, so maybe something else is causing conflicts.

Can you show me exactly where you're running into an issue? New post seems to work fine here:

Yesterday I had a problem when I was writing this post:

Isnt it weird that it is not the same everywhere on the forum?

@Enbara
So, I found out when this happens, and when it does not...

When going to any of the forums, you can just start writing your post on top of the topic list... This is where it doesn't work.

SOLUTION
On the bottom of your unpublished post, you find a button saying "more options", which reloads a new page just for your topic, instead of above the list of existing topics. In this page, everything works fine.

This means, when you have this problem, clicking "More Options" will solve this.

Hopefully this will help the webdesigners to solve this problem too.

The following screenshot shows the message above the topic list:
1688320111010.png

The following screenshot shows the message after clicking More Options:
1688320218021.png

In BOTH screenshots I have the words "IN CAPS" selected, but only in 1 of them you can actually see it.

It is very frustrating when you try to have a problem solved, and others who the report wasn't meant for, just tell you there is no problem.

I am not reporting a problem just for the hack of it and I do not make it up. I report a problem because there is a problem. If you don't have that problem, that is great for you. But it is still bugged on my end, and that is not so great for me.

I know none of you had ill intentions, I just want to let you know that this is counter productive and frustrating. So, please don't deny someones problems, just because you don't experience the same.

So you're saying that the selected text is indistinguishable from the rest in the quick post reply box. I'm not having such an issue while using my phone.

Don't get mad at us for not experiencing the same bug. Anybody that has lots of experience with bug reports knows that there are different kinds of bugs, some are quite general while others are very specific or intermittent. Heck, it could be a browser or browser plugin related issue as well but we don't know, yet.

It's actually not counterproductive at all... If the problem only affects certain people, then that's necessary information for the person trying to solve the problem to have.

This is exactly how we can zero in on things. The fix is in! Please give it another try and see if it's working now.
Hopefully nothing broke elsewhere :D

I am not angry, I am just saying that it is frustrating. When I posted it, I first got 4 or 5 people saying it wasn't true. My fear was that the admins would think this was a false report, for that reason. Specially if they didn't find the problem either. That would be very counter-productive. :p And that was also the part that was frustrating about it.

Like I said, I didn't think you guys were doing it with ill intentions.

Seems to be fixed, thank you!
