EDIT: Okay, so every single time I try to load my project, directly from the project folder or the backup project folder, instead what it's doing is grabbing the older version from the steamcloud, saving it to my steamapps/common/rpgvxace/projects folder and then loading that version instead.

It absolutely refuses to do anything but load the cloud version, even with the cloud disabled.

Original Post:

So, Steam Cloud/Workshop has been killing me.

I have the currently finished version of my project which is 14mb.  Then I have an old version which is 11mb and already on the Cloud.

I uploaded it to Workshop when I had finished it and thought it had bee updated but it was actually using the older, version which I had originally uploaded to the Cloud.

Yesterday, the Cloud resynced my local files to the older version on the Cloud and completely threw my local copy into outer space...gone...forever.

I lost about a couple days of work.

And then this morning...the version which the Cloud had thrown out yesterday, magically reappeared on the Cloud.  I immediately made a copy of it from my Cloud folder and saved it outside of the dreaded Documents/RPGVXACE folder which the Cloud had overwritten previously.

Now, it's going right back to overwriting my local projects folder with the older Cloud version.

No matter what I do, I can't get the Cloud to accept my new version (14mb) to overwrite the old version (11mb).

I've deleted the local copy and replaced it with the updated copy multiple times and the the Manage Project options shows the Delete from Cloud/Save on Cloud options for all my projects including new ones I've tried to make as being greyed out and disabled.

I then also tried disabling Steam Cloud and then re-enabling Steam Cloud and it's still not working.  The problem is the Workshop item won't update from my local copy.  It will only update from my Cloud copy.  If I can't update the Cloud copy I can't update and fix the Workshop item.

When I close RPGM, overwrite the Documents/RPGVXACE Folder with the new copy of the game and try to open it, it keeps opening the Cloud copy even though I'm dragging the project in directly from the Documents folder.  It's stuck in some constant loop of repeatedly overwriting the correct copy of the game with the older cloud copy.

I think the issue might have something to do with the project folder under steamapps/common/rpgvxace/projects

Hey there, by any chance you're subscribed to your own workshop project? Try unsubscribing from it first then open your game.

I had subscribed to it.  Then I unsubscribed from it.  Didn't make a difference.  I tried every possible combination there was of enabling/disabling subscription, steam cloud, etc. even reinstalled, didn't help.  The Steam Cloud upload for this game permanently refuses to let me delete or update it.  I finally had to remove the Workshop file, create a copy of the correct project with a new name and then reupload that to the cloud and the workshop.

Some other RPGM users were also reporting issues with the Cloud yesterday as well.  At any rate, I have the old project permanently stuck in my cloud file.  Like I said, had to remove my original workshop file then upload a new one under a new folder name.  I wouldn't exactly call this resolved.

Also, let this be a warning to anyone using the Steam Cloud.  From now on, I will be using a separate folder outside of my default RPGVXAce folder and the Cloud to backup work on my project.  You would think two backups (local & cloud) would be enough but the cloud is hella bugged and when the cloud bugs out, it reaches back through the interwebs and jacks up your local projects folder as well.

I was just lucky that for a brief moment, my finished project reappeared on Steam, because as soon as I copied it to an outside folder, it reverted back to the old project again.

As an FYI, the file size inconsistency between your local project and the cloud project is normal, as your project is zipped on the cloud it seems.

Ah, thank you for that. We're currently investigating the situation 'u')b

We tried to make the synchronization process as foolproof as possible, while keeping the process transparent so user who get an updated version whenever we could determine it is newer than the saved version.

Seeing as how cloud synchronizing in general seems to do these things sometimes, I think it's pretty normal. Though I do hope this all get's fixed soon, since it seems like a pretty useful feature for those using Steam.

Well, it's just -11mb eating up a little extra space on my cloud allocation. I guess I'll live with it. It's probably better than asking dev/staff to go into my cloud folder on the steam servers, if you guys even have that ability and manually removing it because with my luck, the newest version of my projects would be targeted for deletion :p

Anyway, thanks for the concern.  I guess you can close the thread but just be aware that this is an issue.  I talked to another user on the Steam group chat who lost 6 months worth of work...and he didn't get it back.  So, it's not just me.  And...that's why you backup the backup of the backup.

The basic issue, is that if you have Cloud enabled anything in your default projects folder, i.e. Documents/RPGVXAce can/will be affected if the Steam Cloud goes screwy like.  Because it will update your local projects folder from the Steam Cloud itself, so when the Steam Cloud has an older version of your project, it can overwrite your local projects folder with the older version and then hell in a hand-basket ensues.  I literally couldn't open my project as long as it had the same name of the original, even though I copied it over the Documents/RPGVXAce folder and the Steam Cloud folder, it kept reaching back into the Cloud, grabbing the project and overwriting the local projects folder even after disabling the Cloud.  Long story short. Ouch.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
