Hey everyone. Any loc engines you recommend? I need it to be able to export all the texts into some .xls or .csv. All the texts, meaning not only message boxes, but also system stuff, like map names, etc. And of course, it should be able to import the file back, with the translations.
Probably too much to ask, but if it could also export the text fields in plugins, that would be ideal.

Any recommendations?

I really doubt that you'll get any single option that could do all of this - especially extracting the plugin strings will be difficult.

you might be better off to split the process - for example there is the official database exporter/importer available for free through steam that can export and import the entire database from the project into excel files. That includes the names and texts of course...

Yeah, the texts in plugins was a nice to have :)
I'll look into the exporter/importer. However, I'm guessing it doesn't really manage localization / switching languages, does it?

not in itself, but you can export, have the translation handled in excel and then import the translated terms etc. That will change the database to whatever you changed in the files.

Yeah, but won't give you the option to change languages in game. It will only swap one language for another. :/

most of the localisation plugins won't give you that either, just an option to create multiple single language games.

for internal localisation you'll need something like Ace's External Text script with its multilanguage option, but I haven't seen any equivalent to MV or MZ.

I don't think you're correct.

This allows you to swap between languages quite easily and has a nice editor, just lacks the export/import option:

Swapping languages is very much a thing.

I've seen changing languages in game, but unfortunately I can't seem the find the sources now.
I think DK has one, and another famous developer has one, but I can't seem to recall his/her name.

If you want translation, it might be a good idea to check out these two pieces of software:

The famous Triacontane has written an auto-translation plugin that uses Microsoft Azure.

Lastly, if you want to extract all the text and store them in .csv or .json, this Japanese guy seems to have created a plugin. Unfortunately, the instructions are in Japanese, so you might need to translate that page yourself.

Not sure if that would be a help, as it not directly says something about .xls or so, just import/export texts for translations.

I haven't used it yet, so I can't give you much more informations than this link.

Hello @Woland

I wrote this ODW plugin to be compatible with MZ only, sorry. But it works quite similar to the DK Localization plugin, and there is a version for MV that I recommend.

Note that with my plugin like DK's, there is no export/import of text from the database. You have to go into the editor and settings of each plugin to find the texts to translate and transcribe them into JSON files. My advice (and this is what I do with my plugin) is to do the translation work in a blank project, and then reuse it as bootstrap for new projects. It takes some time to do it, but it's all worth it for the future.

I've figured out how to reasonably tall-ify chibi sprites on my editor. I like that making tall sprites gives me control on expressing how tall characters seem on the field relative to each other as well as better differentiate adult sprites from child sprites.

The set is made to be Easy to Edit and absolutely Child Friendly.
