What exactly is Log Horizon?

Before I start breaking down the systems I was curious to create, here is an information what Log Horizon is:

Log Horizon is a Japanese novel series by Mamare Touno. It was originally posted on a site called Shōsetsuka ni Narō, but was later published by Enterbrain in 2011. There have been four manga adaptations and an anime adaptation began airing on October 5, 2013.

The story takes place in a universe where 30,000 Japanese players and several hundreds of thousand players worldwide are trapped in a fantasy online game world called Elder Tale. For these players, what was once a "sword-and-sorcery world" is now the "real world"! The main character is a male named Shiroe who teams up with his old friend Naotsugu and a beautiful assassin named Akatsuki as they try to survive in this new world.

Now that you've learned what it is, now I can start discussing the things I am planning to make out of this one.

Q: What are the systems you're going to make, Soul?

A: Pretty much, right now, I have made 3 among the many that LH has, so I'll break down the ones I haven't finished yet. I will also link the script locations of the ones I already finished.

Features:

  • Changes to the Menu System - Create the Log Horizon Menu.
  • Different Attributes and Class Dependent Attributes
  • Multiple Subclassing Options per Class
  • Additional Battle Elements
  • New Hud
  • Changes to the Default Battle System
  • Better take on Dungeon Crawling (such as options)
  • Guild System
  • Teleport System (teleportation gates in Log Horizon)
  • Different take on Experience Grinding
  • Teacher System
  • Contact System
  • Overskill
  • Psyche and Anima System
  • Respawn of Monsters
  • Politics System
  • People of the Land > Adventurer Conversion System

♛ Log Horizon Core Script

This core script holds all configurations of the whole system. Some of the scripts are stand alone and works without the core script, however, LH Core holds 90% of which you can use to make the systems work. If interested, you can view the LH Core Version 1 here.

♛ LH – Battle System Scripts

Log Horizon – Row Damage Modifier

This script allows a change of damage only for a certain row of actors. This means that if an actor is in the position indicated on the script, the actor will have a different damage to deal. This by means that all other actors that are not involved in the damage modifier will still deal the normal damage they have to. This is to encompass the Patrol File System.

♛ LH – Database Scripts

Log Horizon – Experience Pot System

This script enables the party members lower than Level 30 or (user defined) to gain experience pots, an item that gives them boost on experience and fighting abilities.

Log Horizon - Item Class Coloring

Creates different coloring to the Item Font when displayed on the list. The colors are paireed to the default colors inside the window base.

♛ LH – Party Scripts

Log Horizon – Patrol File System

Patrol File is a way to maintain your formation and field monitoring. The first and the last members in line cover each other’s view, so attackers and healers can focus on their jobs as the party moves.

NOT-YET FINISHED / NOT YET STARTED LOG HORIZON SCRIPTS

Log Horizon - Overskills

An overskill (Kuden) is the capability of using one's abilities, after the Apocalypse, in a way that was not intended by the game. It is discovered through experimentation, but are also often difficult to master without training and research. An overskill mainly, is a skill that works in or outside battle which is only available to each specific class.

Log Horizon - Psyche and Anima System

The body of the player and the avatar becomes one and are connected. Therefore, when the player dies, it affects their psyche and anima, in the game, being their HP and MP. It is also relevant that if someone dies, they loses memory from the real world. In this system, I am planning to implement that if a character dies, they will lose Experience Points.

Log Horizon - Skill Cooldown

The skills will not be always available. They can only be casted within a turn skill cooldown.

Log Horizon - Cathedral System

All characters that dies are respawned in the Cathedral. I am planning to do this (in after battle).

Log Horizon - HUD

The character HUD for the player.

Log Horizon - Menu

A simple menu background style for the player.

I will be posting updates from time to time, since I am currently working on this one. I will be posting a demo once the working scripts have been compiled and the ones needed to make every script work is also done. Please don't forget to give your thoughts. This would help me think and see how the system should work as well. If you have any further questions or points you want to know about this under development engine, please don't hesitate to comment so I can add it on my next update.

so this is something on the lines of .hack and SAO? I guess it should be worth watching then... I do hope you finish the systems, seems like it can be useful for some people. :)

In my opinion I can say that Log Horizon is way better than SAO, due to the fact that it shows what gameplay and strategy really is. It feels like you're in a game, characters are not OP and most importantly it shows game balance too :D

well, IMHO, SAO was never really about the games themselves... most game related or game based animes I saw are like that, since the focus was now on the storyline, it doesn't really feel like a game anymore.

Yes and also, it has too many plotholes as well, together with that harem innuendos on the story. Personally, I like Log Horizon for that. We have a smart character, does not only fight physically but rather prefer fighting his enemies through strategy and intelligence. Aside from that, there are lots of discussions about what is a magic, what is MP, HP, basic elements of an RPG game...and the unique one I saw is the Politics system they imposed, governing both NPCs and Players.

I really enjoyed log horizon, the only thing I thought SAO did better was how they got inside the virtual world in the first place, but that's about it.

(Via Nevergear, when log horizon changed the law of the world.)
I really like some of the scripts you have planned, especially the Menu and HUD.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
