LOOK OUT: A WILD RECLUSE APPEARS

Hey there! I'm Rose! I mean, at least, that's what I go by! I'm a Psychology major, a Senior. Planning on getting a PhD in Child Psychology. I'm a writer in my off time. I'm working on a research project regarding gender differences in parenting. I'm a transgirl. I'm pretty durn religious.

Who cares about any of that, though?

I like video games! I love playing them, I love thinking about them, I love discussing them, and now just maybe I'll love making them! ...Eventually. There's a steep learning curve. And, you see, I don't know how to art gud (but my wife does!). I don't know how to code to save my life (but if someone could point me in the right direction I'd love them?). All I can really do is write. Anyone can write, but boy can I write good! And, of course, I can map. Mappin' ain't hard. So for now, I guess I'm working on the script and basic eventing before anything else! It's gonna be a chore, even if I know exactly what I want out of my pet project (a story revolving around a father and a daughter using a pair of time-travelling guns to make brief hops into the past to change the future and WOAH TIMEY-WIMEY HIGH FANTASY DEALING IN FATALISM AND THE ILLUSION OF CHOICE AND PAROCHIAL LOVE AND BROKEN HOMES AND BEING UNABLE TO MOVE ON).

So uh. Hi! Hey, ask me stuff! Ask me anything! I can't guarantee I'll be super talkative on the forums, I'm a bit of a quiet hermit and generally only speak up when I need something/have something of value to say (with my lack of any skills, that's currently nothing). But I'll do my best to be around!

Andar and GrandmaDeb both have lists of tutorials for beginners, I'm not sure how much of Andar's are for MV and how much is for VX Ace though since I haven't looked at them since well before MV was released but I THINK GrandmaDeb's were all for VX Ace. Maybe! I have a looooooooong way to go before I get anywhere with mine, but if you make progress on yours I don't mind dinking around with it and giving you some input.

Hey there, Rose! Welcome to the forums!~


Good to see the enthusiasm for making a game. You already got the link for some tutorial videos, so I'll just provide some general points for ya. I'd highly recommend not starting with trying to make your ideal game. It probably won't come out like you wanted due to inexperience, which can make some people lose heart. Make a basic, straight-forward game to master the basics of the engine first. (Ie. Hero gets super sword. Go kill Goblin King. Yay~) This will get you used to eventing, and the other basic mechanics. Once you've mastered these, you can explore plugins and such. (You can do these right of the bat, but it can be a tad overwhelming if you don't know the basics first) A good place to go for a LOT of free plugins is Yanfly.moe . These will increase your flexibility by quite a bit. Well, that's just a little bit of newbie advice.

Oh, and another bit of advice for you, keep a pointless game project going to experiment in when you are trying to figure out how to do something, that way you don't risk ruining your main project while trying to figure it out.
