My friend and I are looking to make a game that's reminiscent of Fatal Frame, and Spirit Camera. I'd appreciate it if any of you know of a script I could use to replicate the camera in some fashion. I've been looking but I'm having trouble because there are just so many scripts to choose from.

I have RPG Maker MV, VX Ace, and XP. I'm willing to use any of the three. Game I'm Referencing/Function Reference: Deadly Shutter, Example Video

My ideas are: Replicating the camera effect of that game, while replacing all art so it's my own, or setting a click-the-enemy to 'attack' (take pictures) system based on either luck or power of the character/device/film equipped.

I'm also looking for any ideas you guys might have as to how we deal with ghosts or monsters. I don't want a traditional party system, something more unique than that, if only because this is a horror game and not a traditional RPG outside of equipped items and 'weapons', as in cameras or audio recorders. Thanks!

I'm pretty good at figuring stuff out but I need something to base it on. I know it's possible, as I found a game that's tribute to Fatal Frame that had a very basic version, though I can't exactly peek in the game files. Thank you!

I apologize, I've only ever used the art part of the forums. I'll make sure to do so from now on.

In fatal frame you take pictures with the camera obscura to fight ghosts right? That seems great in a 3D environment. As you're going to do it in a 2D environment, what do you have in mind? You can't exactly point the camera in various directions... If you give descriptions about what you want it to look like, people can point you to some plugins.
can you share screenshots from the other game you're talking about?

Hi! I'll be honest, I did find a game that uses the mechanic, but now I'm looking at more limited options because I truly do not know how to replicate it. The game is this one: Deadly Shutter, Example Video

I'm thinking that if I can find a script that allows me to click on an enemy in the battle, I could try to enforce a luck-based system based on parts of the enemy. I'm not sure how well that could go, but I think it might be easier to click on the enemy to 'take a picture' rather than to enforce a full camera system. It could subtract damage or entirely kill an enemy based on either luck or where they click.

I saw the video. That's really cool actually :0 And lucky for you, it won't be that hard to do. They put a border/frame of sorts using 'show picture', turned the player invisible and then show another picture of the target thingy (what do you call it lol) that centers on the screen and I think they do a conditional check to see if coordinates of the player and the ghosts (those are events I think) match. If it does, show the effects for the camera clicking and stuff. That's all I can assume from the video. Don't know how it would be practically.

I wish I could like your post multiple times! That's a good start to try to play with. What I have to figure out alternately is how to make the film or whatever consumable I use work in the 'battle'. Thanks so much, I'll save this so I can research the commands.

Glad I was helpful ^^ If you need help with consumable stuff (like batteries for flashlights for example), I made a tutorial on it ages ago. I updated it recently and lost the written version but I have an example project you can check out. It's in my signature ^^ Anyways, wish you good luck with your game!

Thanks! I appreciate it. I'll definitely take a look at your tutorials, the flashlight thing sounds super cool. Good luck with your own endeavors! :ywink:

It would probably help you a lot if you gave a text description of what you want, especially if you already modified a game mechanic away from the games you named.

The first problem is that not everyone has played the same games as you, I don't even know the names you gave in your first post.
The second problem is that quite a number of people here on this forum will not (or cannot) watch videos - download restrictions, reading by mobile or other reasons.

And last - a technical description of a game mechanic can more easily be correlated to a plugin. It is a big difference to say "I want an event to process when the enemy picture is clicked on" than to say "I want the player to take a picture of an enemy like in <obscure unknown game>"

@Liikii, please do not bump your topic unless it has been 72 hours later since your last post. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

I tried to do my best, I don't entirely know how to describe it any other way than I did in the opening post. I'll try again but I'm not sure what else I can say about it.

The game is basically a horror game where the mechanic to defeat enemies is capturing them on a camera. So the ideas I came up with about it were two: to either figure out how someone else did it with their tribute game, which was like this, where your game shifts into that of a camera sort of situation with a picture of the background visible. From there, a camera lens type deal, and then you capture a picture of the ghost with it, either failing or succeeding to kill or damage it. You can move the camera back and forth through one side and the other to try to find and capture the ghost.

If not a system like this, the ability to click on an enemy to attack in battle, maybe based on luck or just damage depending on where you click, and if unable to specify clicking areas, just clicking on it in general.

I apologize to the staff and to others for not being clear. I'm really new to things other than posting in the art forum, and I was so tired last night I forgot to review the rules again since the last time I posted. I just did review them so it doesn't happen again. Sorry, once more.

So basically you want to click on pictures, with the difficulty being able to find the picture of the enemy.

There are some plugins that are intended to be used for clickable buttons on screen, but if you use barely visible enemies as pictures for the buttons that should be a starting point to get in the right direction.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
