Sorry if this is not the correct area to ask for help.

Right now I am still currently learning the ropes of the RPG Maker VX Ace program, and having a great time doing so. But I have ran into sort of a snag while developing my "learning" game. I want to make a door event in which the door to the throne room requires a key. Below is a picture of what I am trying to do.

Note: The chest near the stairs holds the key to unlock the door as I was experimenting with how to get through.

Because the room is connected, I am also having issues with being able to effectively block it off with out blocking the way once the door is unlocked to enter.

Any help, suggestions, and/or feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

you need a multipage event with the door as the sprite.

page one: no conditions, show text "door is locked"

page two: condition "item = key" in inventory, show text "you unlock the door" and control self-switch A = ON

page three: condition self-switch A = ON, no commands, sprite of open door, event set to "trough" (botton left options.

Do NOT use conditional branches - the conditions (top left) are what you need to use on the different pages.

Got most of it to work thanks.

Still having issues being able to walk through the "wall" behind the door though.

You need to create new tiles that look the same, and have a star for passability. You can put those onto the E tileset.

Easiest way is to just do it as you have it here, take a screenprint of your game screen, then use an image editing program to cut out those two tiles and paste into TileE's image. Then on your map, draw floor tiles there (use the Shift key, so it doesn't do autotiling and make the edges of the real wall look different), and put your 'fake' wall tiles over the floor tiles.

The downside to that is that you'll be able to walk 2 tiles into the wall from above it, at the spot over the door, but not at any other spot. If that bothered you, you might take a look at Neon Black's Terrain script instead, which may solve that problem.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
