Hey, everyone, rather urgent question here.

So, I recently moved to a new laptop (Like, last night ^^) And copied across the project folder for my project onto my new laptop.

But when I opened the project onto the recently-downloaded VX Ace on my new laptop, all it shows is the basic MAP001 and no other anything!

Have I lost my work completely or is there still some hope for recovering it?

Thanks,

-Litzana

I might be dumb right now:

Do you still have your old laptop?

If you do, go to My Documents > RPGVXACE - Put your games' folder on an USB or smth, put it in the same folder again on your new PC.

Just re-copy the folder across? Hmm, I gave the old laptop to a friend but I'll see if he can e-mail me the folder.

Yeah, that must work. It worked at me when I decided to upgrade to Windows 8 so should work at you too.

I know, I was an idiot :( I have a copy now in Dropbox, though.

It didn't :( He sent it to me over in Dropbox and I downloaded and extracted it, it still only shows the MAP001.

In My Documents, yes. Did you mean the SteamApps folder?

Have you tried zipping the project folder before copying it onto dropbox? That usually helps in preventing corrupted and missing data. (Also, it's really lucky/weird that you've already given your old computer to a friend but it still has your stuff on it. The last computer I gave away I scrubbed twice first and it was my own daughter I gave it to.) Also, I'm sure you've verified that the project is intact pre-transfer still and it isn't a flaw there?

This wouldn't make a difference. The project folder can be stored pretty much anywhere and still work.

Are the other files still in the project?
There is a basic control file that tells Ace how many maps to load, if that file had been damaged Ace would only load the first map, even if the other files are there.

If the map files are available, check the highest map number.

Then make a new project, creating empty maps until you reach that number of maps

then copy only the numbered map files into that new project...

He said he would scrub it for me, it didn't have anything personal or sensitive on it so I let him as I know next to nothing about the inner workings of these magical electronical devices.

And yes, he did zip the file...

I had a nosey into the folder and all the sub-folders are empty! Apart from the graphics folder which only has the custom graphics I imported into the game, and the project file itself. What's going on?

If the data folder is empty, then the project data is lost unless you have a copy of it somewhere else.
If you do not have a data folder, what are the names (including the endings) of the files in the main project folder?

I know that all three files have a main name of "Game", what is important is the part after "Game." - if your windows is configured to hide those endings, give us a screenshot of the folder so that we can see the symbols of those files.

(It could be that he made a mistake when providing that copy, but I don't want to write about that here on the forum without confirmation of what happened)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
