No idea where this should go, so I stuck it here. If it should be moved, great :)

I put my game Delta Origins on Dropbox. But I was locked out of dropbox due to losing the two factor authentication code (extra security) and I have no way to get it. :(

I have an old backup, but it is very old. I don't want to have to start over. ;_;
I have a released version that is a bit old, but only a bit. It shouldn't take me very long to recover it from that. :|
But that version is encrypted. So here is my question.

Is it legal - am I allowed - to break the encryption of an RM game that I own, that I have complete right to?

I think this is similar to the case where you forgot your key in your house and asking if it's legal or not to break in one's house.
If it's other house of course not but if it's your house, yeah do it.

Yeah, but it is against the EULA to break an RM game's encryption. I don't want to do anything illegal, so I just want to make sure.

Absolutely right. But I think there will be a workaround on this. @Archeia can you take a look at this?

If you had just silently done that, who would have know about it haha?
Now if Archeia say No, it's illegal even it's your game. You will have to work from the start with your very old backup of the game.
Will you really do that? will you? will you? Yes? Really? :) haha

I don't know if I will work from the start. I wanted to see this project till the end, but if I lost all I've done, I might give up.

though i think you may contact Dropbox staffs for supporting. If you can prove the account is your, they will disable the 2 factor authentication for you. I had lost access to gmail & some other sites' account due to my phone got broken therefor couldn't access 2 factor authentication, after contacted those sites' staff, they helped me to get back my account

Yes, I've got the password for it, maybe just sending them that (and the email address) will be proof.

Yeah, it should be like that. How could you ever think about "give up" a project you spent so much time on it, tsk

I will. I moved the game to Dropbox so that I could recover it if I lost it. And then it backfired on me in the worst way possible.

Gosh, that sounds harsh x(( But yeah, I really do wish you'll be able to recover it as soon as possible. Having lost progress that you've worked hard on must feel really bad x((

Stop teasing him to do a wrong move please. We wait @Archeia or another admin to answer to this.

Nope, don't you ever give up. I think someone from the staff might do turn it into project again for you if possible. In that way you will not have to break the E.U.L.A. but let's wait for official staff to resolve this.
To be honest, this thread is an exceptionally great example on what to do in such a case. Contact devs and ask for support. I am not an official Staff member, I was just a member once, before becoming a moderator, thus I can't answer to your inquiry. But I am sure devs will do their best to help you out solve this. You have chosen the right way, not the easy way. Kudos.

P.S. USB sticks are still the best means of backup in my opinion.

So you think I should PM Archeia?

You can, and you can also show her a link on this thread, so the thread will get an official answer.
It might not be @Archeia who will give you the solution. It might be @Lunarea or @Touchfuzzy , but for sure, SOMEONE will take a look at your issue. Great thing you didn't rushed your actions.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
