Hello there.
I've been a lurker on forums like these for...
(longer than I can recall)
I've decided to just simply set up an account here. However, I likely won't be on very often, so I don't know about this post moderation thing (I have nothing against it, but given my predicted low level of activity I don't see it being prudent).
Anyway, here's my bio (in my About Me as well)...
I've always been a fan of the RPG Tsukuru software, if mainly because it was quite innovative at the time (and I was and still am a sucker for such things), however, I find that...
Most of the time, I just write big blobs of text in the event editors.
I'm better at writing than pretty much anything else, so that's what I do.
My deafness is different from most of the typical deafness experience; I can hear some things, and I can hear when people speak, but more often than not, when a lot of people are talking, it just becomes a mummer and indistinct. There's a certain range that I can hear decently and the rest is pretty much noise or inaudible.
However, I can hear sound clearly if it vibrates through my skin, so whenever I play acoustic guitar, I hear every note clearly, as long as there's no other sounds nearby.
I used to be able to hear many types of instruments with decent clarity, but over time, that has degraded; a sitar, mandolin and harp all sound the same, unless I'm right next to them (or playing them though I don't have the skill for the harp like my mother did).
I can hear the piano just fine, and know the differences between several piano types, with exception to the highest and lowest octaves in which the differences blend together, at least for me.
Might be asking what kind of music I like...
That's a short list.
Classic Rock, mostly.
I can stand bits and pieces of certain other kinds of music, but there's music genres that actually cause me a great deal of stress due to the noise factor involved.
Dubstep, rap and -core music of the late 2000's onward, hurt my ears, and make them bleed. There was one dubstep composition that a former neighbor's kid played loudly to spite me that nearly killed me because it caused me to seize. Yeah, that bad. I was actually completely deaf for nearly two months after that. I didn't press charges but the kid was convicted of malicious negligence or something of the like. That house has been vacant since.
Oh, yes. I actually respect the musicians who recorded hard rock and metal music, but I can't enjoy the music because it becomes far too distorted for the most part, though I can enjoy Joe Satriani (I in fact have a guitar he signed for me back in 1999 when I attended a concert and he saw my cochlear implant). My favorite song of his is Surfing With the Alien.
I really don't have many developer skills in any regard, and I've never really tried to make a game either. I don't really have any plans to, but if I can help someone else in any way, no matter how insignificant, I'll feel satisfied enough.
I'm fairly simple, even if I am by a cruel twist of Fate, high maintenance. That's why I'm single.
Well, that and the fact that I have no interest in men, at least, not anymore.
I have a cat, Annie, who is deaf in one ear, but her reflexes and senses are sharper than most other cats I know. You should see her jump some time, it is really something.
I do have a name, yes. No, I'm not telling, and I have my reasons. However, I tend to get the 'you look like an 'Alice/Aelita' to me' nonsense a lot so you can call me by either of those, that's fine.
Also, I am prone to slipping when it comes to vulgarities, though oddly, in person it almost never happens (I won't get into the few times it did-not publicly anyway).
