my takes:
sword: sharp stick training sword sounds nice.
dagger: kitchen knife, easy enough.
staff: magic branch. maybe a wooden cane could work as well.
shield: pot lid is incredible as is. buckler would be a plausible alternative.
axe: hatchet. they're usually smaller than combat axes.
bow: slingshot. maybe a toy bow?
spear: as you got Pot Lid, let me get another BotW great: wooden rake.

every level 1 weapon is pretty much *the weapon*, period.
a spear will always be a spear, because a spear is a stick with a sharp point.
if it wasn't a stick with a sharp point, it would be a stick.
if it was not the length of a spear, it'd be a staff.
if it was even shorter, it'd be a club.

Training Sword. Because the wooden sword is basically a club.
But does it make sense to carry training weapons for adventure? probably not.

Personally, I would use a practical weapon such as "Iron Sword".
By this, the axe could be a woodcutter ax, the dagger would be an iron dagger or kitchen knife (if you're broke to buy a battle dagger), and a bow would be a hunting bow or simple bow. Same with the spear.

These are great suggestions, but more along the lines of what I was going to name lv 3-5 weapons. For lv1 weapons, I was trying to come up w/ mundane items/objects that could be used as makeshift weapons, hence "Letter Opener" or "Pot Lid" lol. I'll definitely include stuff like "Iron Sword" or "Iron Dagger" but those are proper weapons at that point, albeit basic ones.

Maybe the lv1 Bow could be called "Stringed Branch" or "Strung Branch"? If it were a more modern setting, I'd be able to name the lv1 Sword as "Shinai", which is what Kendo practitioners use for training (made of bamboo). But alas, I don't think they'd have Shinais in a fantasy setting especially since that's a mostly Japanese thing. But "Training Sword" will do though, thx!

@NatePlays Wooden Rake sounds great! Lol, I should look into more gardening tools...

Edit: How about "Old Shovel" for a 2H Axe?

If you're going that way, then I have two suggestions.
- spear would be a pitchfork
- bow would be a slingshot/hand catapult

Dagger could just be a sharp rock. That's basically what the first daggers were.
I'll echo hatchet for Axe, but almost any swung tool is an axe in waiting. Scythe would be a bit ironic because it's often considered a deadly or amazing weapon when it's basically just a tool.
Similarly for a spear, any nonswung tool is a spear in waiting. Pitchfork is a good one, but scythe again works because farmers would move the blade up to stab with in a pinch.

Levels of weapons:

- Peasant
- Noble
- Premium
- Emperor
- Chinese
- American military grade
- German engineered
- Glorious superior Nipponese

Just insert the name of the weapon after these levels. Players ought to understand.

What about an umbrella for the spear? One of those long, pointy ones! Maybe a meat cleaver for an axe?

I don't know how many time the players will be with a "level one" weapon, i don't even know how much tiers of weapons you planing, but i like "set" of itens.
If i will do a "set of level one weapons" i would made something with joke tones, like:

  • Sword: cutting stick
  • Dagger: point stick
  • Staff: Walking Stick
  • Shield: bunch of stick
  • Axe: stoned stick
  • Bow: stick with string
  • Spear: very pointed stick

Hope you can use something.
See ya.

just discovered thig game called Willowbrooke Post... beautiful artstyle if I do say so myself... does anyone know what this kind of style is called??
In one of my game projects, I am working on an arena where you can fight combatants or bet on monsters, and, man, it is taking so long, lmao. I do not think that it helps that I am using an evented combat system with a lot of things that I have to edit.
