When it comes to making a game, do you [the creator] at times end up making a
companion for your main character that even you begin to form a bit of favoritism
when it comes to their screen time?

My game was supposed to follow the story I had written out for a manga I was
planning on creating. However while writing the story up I realized my main
character lacked something, and without going in to a lot of unnecessary information
I basically decided to change it and add a partner for him that cares and understands
him more than anyone.

Sorry for going off topic.
But does anyone have a favorite companion that they created for their main
character? Does this character help him grow in anyway? Also feel free to post a
picture of them together.

This was the character I loved and based the companion on.
(This is the spiritual actor that comes with the game.)

My new favorite character is the female on the top known as Louise.

When I do write (rarely), I tend to plan ahead for what characters will be in and out of the story. I aim for equal screen time for every character, but that just isn't possible, unless they are all together. To answer your question, it all depends on how my story unfolds.

Yes. I usually write the story based on the characters I like.

I have a big emotional bond to these two below: Samuka and Totó (Fido).

Here's a screenshot of the game (since I didn't drawed them, just used the RTP).

Samuka:
We found a nice and cozy place to drink Sake, didn't we Fido?

Hmmmm....I didn't think about having main character with companion like little fary, dog or cat or something. I made main character accompany with his lil sis. Idea is this.

Well in one of my stories the focus is that you're the companion kinda, and the real protagonist someone else but the screentime is on you, I do have a certain favoritism to the ones that I feel more identified

It's really interesting hearing everyone's input on the distribution of their characters screen time!
@DestinyBattle I agree, if the characters are not all together and all have their own agenda its really hard to
distribute appropriate amount of screen time for everyone. What I'm doing is making those types of characters
appear every now and then to either assist or ask for help from the main character if their agenda's are ever the
same in dungeons or mysteries in buildings. This way when they do appear people will be rather happy to see
the character and that short time will leave them wanting more but respect that the character has his own thing
to do. (─‿‿─)

@CleanWater That looks really awesome! Even in my game I want to incorporate pets, however I'm finding it
difficult to add the appropriate dialogue and abilities each pet can give you when you find them. That game of your's
looks interesting though (^▽^) ~

@KayZaman Woah that image where they chain link a skill really gives the player a view at the strength of
their bond. (౦ ‸ ౦);;;

@readydotexe Well then wouldn't your character be the protagonist now instead of the other person? Also I know right!?
When you already have certain characters that you like, its kind of hard to not want to give them screen time. But as
@DestinyBattle said it is important to be fair when balancing out screen time (⌒‿⌒) ☆

Thank you all for your opinions! I'd like to hear more~ You don't necessarily have to be making a game.

Off topic comment. I noticed that no matter how much I try to type in an organized fashion my text always ends up looking unorganized lol so sorry if anyone thinks I'm doing that on purpose, I promise I'm not.

@Amber_lampz I know I know I think is more like when you take the protagonist and slowly the role is changing to the secondary character, on the point that the story is focusing more on him kinda, I have to make clearer the idea xd, and yeah I think balancing them sorta like Full Metal Alchemist does that you get enough screentime for all characters and that's why you love most of them

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
