Major performance hit from show picture?

I've set up a simple event as follows:

(Parallel process)

-Show picture

-Erase event

The purpose is to apply a "cave light" effect to obscure the player's view of too much of a cave. Since the event is set to erase itself, shouldn't it no longer affect performance? The FPS is 60FPS in the cave, but as soon as I add that event it drops to 49.

I am quite confused...

Please post a screenshot of the event - most probably you made a mistake there, because parallel processes are restarted automatically sixty times per second if not correctly handled.

Extremely simple event. I'm starting to suspect it may in fact be my laptop, because I can't understand why this would cause an issue

Is it a big picture you're displaying?

Make it an autorun and try again?

Also try adding a short Wait at any point in the event and see if the lag gets better or lasts a shorter/longer period of time.

In theory you shouldn't be experiencing any problems from this event.

Show the picture when loading the map and in the parallel process just change the opacity of it from 255 to 0, then 0 to 255 in 1 frame. That should improve the performance.

Test it in a New Project, showing a normal picture and erasing the event afterwards causes no lag, maybe just a little decrease while it is loaded for 1sec (but even that normaly not happens).

I supose your Game is allready near Performance Limit and this one thing overdoes it. (Maybe?)

And or:

You have many Background Programms running while you do the Tests?  (I dont think so but who knows)

so:

Test in a New Project.

Edit: Also good to know if you use some kind of High Resolution DLL in your Project or other Scripts.

Have you tried checking if your event lags on a new project? :3

Thanks to each and every one posting advice. I tried it on a new project and there was no issue, then when I went back to my project there was no issue anymore...

Really weird.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone

I always worry when something "just starts working". If you didn't do anything to make it start, it means you don't know what caused it, and you can't guarantee it won't happen again.

I'd ask if there was something ELSE that was going on when you first go onto that map that might be causing the lag, and it's not the picture at all.

And no to the suggestion of putting it in an autorun event. A parallel process event runs before you see the map, while the window is still faded out. An autorun event doesn't run until after the fade in has happened, which means the player would see the map without the picture, and then the picture would appear.

Post back if the problem crops up again.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
