So my brother purchased the VX Ace toolset on Steam a while back and we have yet to use it really. We have discussed what we want to make but been too busy. Anyway, I noticed most examples of gameplay for the system happens to be a battle system similar to the original Final Fantasy games. There's nothing wrong with this of course, but what if I wanted our game to be something else? The ideal system for us would be something similar to Chrono Trigger's system.
Is it possible to program in dual and triple techniques (abilities in combat)? Also can enemies and sprites in battle animate? I noticed usually gameplay examples (again) for these systems have the old look of doing things with no real flare or something like that during battles or even in game. If I had sprites of my own that animated in complex styles, will this game system load them properly?
Finally, is it possible to make an Action based RPG in VX? Nothing overly complex for any of these, but I guess I mean something like a metroidvania? Or are these systems strictly for console style RPGs only? I'm just curious, I could look into these things but its a lot to look through on these forums alone, let alone learning the systems before I find these things out.
