I've made my game such that the player can choose which side to fight on. If they choose A, enemies from B will be encountered in the overworld. If they choose B, enemies from A will be encountered in the overworld.

Is there a way to do this without plugins, and preferrably without having to create 2 versions of the same map?

Thanks in advance!

Instead of setting up the troop in Map Properties, you could use an event set to parallel process that will check if the player has taken X steps since arriving on the world map (or since the last battle), and if they have, determine what troop to fight based on their earlier choice, and run the Battle Processing event command.

It's a bit more involved than that, but that's a high-level overview of how you could achieve it.

An alternative - if and only if you are using visible enemies instead of random - is to use switches and events with 2 pages.

When they make their choice, turn on one of 2 switches, so choice A might turn on Switch 30 (name it) and choice B would turn on Switch 31 (name it). Name the switches so that you don't accidentally use them for something else as well.

For your event, have the first page conditioned by switch 30 - for battle processing, choose the troop which fits with that choice. On your second page have it conditioned by switch 31 - with the battle processing going to a different troop. Only the page appropriate for the choice will run.

And a third possibility (although more complex and with a few drawbacks) is to use "placeholder" enemies that are transformed to the correct side on the battlescreen after the battle is initiated but before it is started (on turn 0)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
